"Hey, can you pass me my newspaper, please?"
"Yup."
We've got a good system going. Ryan passes newspaper, makes boxes, and opens new tape rolls. I wrap things that need to be, put them in boxes. When the box is done, Bella tapes and labels it.
It doesn't take long to fill the boxes, since they're smaller. We got them all from Mrs. Jeffrey, from her stock shipments.
After a while, I noticed Ry dozing off on my bed. He's never stayed overnight, but I don't think he's going anywhere. So, I text Mrs. Jeffrey, and let her know he is staying over. I know she'll be cool with it, as long as she's informed.
"Couch?" Bella mouths to me, before yawning.
I nod, and we leave the room. Ry's always been a pretty heavy sleeper, but I still don't want to sit and chat when he's sleeping right there.
"Almost done," I drop on the couch, and open my arms for Bella join me.
"Yup, and we're getting close to moving day."
"Finally," I yawn, as Bella sinks into my arms, getting comfortable.
"Good night."
"Night."
I wake up to the sound of cupboards in the kitchen slamming. Bella's asleep on the couch. And unless it's an accident, which is not what it sounds like, it's not Ryan.
It's too early to deal with them.
"How is there no food in here?"
My brow cocks, as I cross my arms, "I'm sorry?"
"We give you as much money as we do, and you can't even keep the house stocked?"
"There's tons of food, just because it's not all premade, doesn't mean there's no food."
They both get huffy, but before they go to say anything, they storm off to their room.
That's when it hits me, I don't remember the last time Ry saw my parents, properly. This isn't a great scenario.
My thought stops for a moment, when Bella comes up behind me, and kisses my neck, as her arms snake around my waist.
I grin, "good morning."
"Morning," I can't see her, but I can hear how much she smiling.
"I don't wanna ruin this moment, but I also don't want them to, my parents are here."
Her arms relax, and go back to her sides.
"I promise, I'm going to get Ryan up, and then we can leave.
"Okay, I'm going to go to the bathroom then, mostly to avoid your parents."
"I'll give a quick tap on the door when I leave my room." That's become our new agreement.
Bella nods, as we split off.
"Ryan. Ryan."
He shifts, and then buries himself into my pillow. So I take another pillow, from the floor, and throw it at him.
"Ryan, come on. We need to go. My parents are here."
His voice is almost immediately clear, "I'll be out in two minutes."
"Thank you," I close the door behind me.
When we get to Ryan's, he heads back to bed, so Bella and I go downstairs.
They really make the random appearances more and more annoying, even though it's their place, they should seriously never stop traveling.
Bella put some stuff away and sits down beside me, "hey."
I don't turn my gaze from the floor.
"Are you doing okay?"
I can't find the words to express how I feel, so I unfortunately just shrug.
I've turned so my body is facing her, but I'm still looking down. I know she's hesitating on what to say.
"I'm sorry you have to deal with them."
"I'm used to it, mostly."
We sit in silence for a moment.
"Hey, only a week and a half, then we move into our own an apartment. No more worrying about your parents just showing up, without word of warning, and causing you grief."
"Yeah, I'm really excited for that."
I finally look up, and give her a slight smirk. It's hard not to when I look at her.
I lean back on the bed and pull her down with me.
We lay there together, no words exchanged, just there in the moment, with each other.
When I wake up, I grab my book and read, waiting for her to wake up.
I begin thinking about our move, our home. We played it smart with our packing, so when my parents show up, there'd be no worry of them intruding, and trying to cause trouble.
Mrs. Jeffrey has been letting us keep things here while we wait for our place to be available.
We could move out today and be okay, given what we have. We'll still need a few things here and there, but I feel like that's a given for most.
I'm glance over, seeing Bella sleeping so peacefully. She's so beautiful, it's crazy. In 18 years, I never thought I could feel like this, towards anyone. She can still make me completely weak in the knees, in a matter of seconds, and I know she gets a kick out of it. I can't wait for it to just be us, in OUR home.
No parents to hover, and bother us, because of the relationship.
Really though, between Bella and the Jeffery's, I don't need anyone else. I am so ready for a new chapter in my life!
Mrs. Jeffrey comes in and invites me up for coffee, for a bit, while everyone else is still asleep.
"So, when's your moving day again?"
"The fifteenth."
"Right. And you've got everything ready?"
"Yeah, mostly, aside from the day before stuff. Right now, I'm just hoping my parents are back to being out of town, when it's time to move."
"I'm sure they will be. It'll be a huge surprise if they stay longer than a week."
"True, they do know how to pull surprises at the worst times though."
She looks to the clock, "I suppose I should get Ryan up, so we can go to work."
"Yeah, I should go see if Bella is up anyways."
"Alright, I will see you later then."
"Yeah, see ya."
I'm amazed that Bella is still asleep.
I contemplate sitting down, but I don't want the bed to shift, or squeak, and wake her up. So, I go out to the main room, while I finish my coffee.
I hear Ryan come downstairs, and go into the laundry room and then run back upstairs.
He's back down in seconds, I can hear in fumbling, so I head over.
He's scrambling to put the ironing board away, and get his shirt on, and buttoned.
"You let your clothes get wrinkly again, didn't you?"
He sighs, "yeah."
I grab the board, and move it, watching him mess up his buttons.
"Mom is pissed, because we're close to running late."
"Well, while you should hurry," I move over to help him, "you should also pay attention, you're missing buttons."
"Crap."
It's been quite some time, since I've seen him this frazzled.
"Hey," I try to bring attention to me, which half works. "Relax, just let me help you."
He finally relaxes a bit, and puts his arms down, so I can fix his shirt. In his defense, it's a little hard to notice where you miss buttons and holes, when it's all the same colour, and all just blends together.
"There. You good now?"
"Yeah. Thanks."
I grin, and he runs upstairs.
As they leave, I just stand at the bottom of the stairs, waving to them.
