The day started pretty much the same as yesterday. We got up, ate, and went off to school. In first, we had a work period, so Bella and I worked together to get stuff done and handed in. Second, I had a quiz, which didn't take us long. And third we are starting a research project into an unsolved mystery. So I'm quite excited for that. Bella joined us for lunch, where we all had a fun hour. Periods four and five were the same as yesterday. We finished the documentary, with Ry and I doing more puzzles. Our fifth class finished the presentations.
Mrs. Jeffery gives us a ride home after school, before heading back to work with Ryan.
"Thank you for the ride."
"Of course. Are you guys still planning to come for dinner tomorrow?"
"Yup! Have fun at work."
They head off, so we go inside. We did a bit of work and found a fun unsolved mystery to do, The Zodiac Killer.
It was easy to get it all done for both of us. We go into the bedroom and I sit on the bed, while she grabs something from the dresser. When she turns around, I pull her on to the bed. We just continue to lay here. We don't worry about having anything on, and just enjoyed each other's company.
While laying in our room, we can hear the door open.
"Ry?" I call out, awaiting an answer. He has shown up before without warning, but I am also pretty sure he is working until 5, and I don't think it's after 5 yet.
Either way, I unfortunately don't get the response I'm hoping for, when my dad comes to the room, "hey, kiddo."
I can't help rolling my eyes, "don't call me 'kiddo,' you know I hate that."
He ignores me and heads back out to the kitchen. I turn to Bella, "I'll be right back."
As I walk into the kitchen, I see their bags inside, which only means one thing, "how long are you staying?"
"About a week and a half."
I sigh and am ready to head back to the bedroom, when my dad pipes up, "who was that in your room?"
"That's my girlfriend, Bella."
My dad immediately scoffs.
I think about walking away, but I'm tired of giving them passes, "why the scoff?"
"Why must you always do things to embarrass us?"
"Excuse me?"
"You are always doing the things that make you stand out as a loser and an outcast, and now you're deciding to be with a girl," he sounds completely disgusted by the idea.
"So what? You come home whenever. You don't talk to me unless it's about you. And you've pretty much missed everything that I have gone through in my life! So yes, I have a girlfriend and I don't care if you don't like it. I love her more than you could ever dream to understand."
I can tell they want to argue back, but I walk away, heading back to Bella. She's sitting with her feet up at the corner of the bed. I turn around, and flop down, trying not to scream. Her hand comes into mine, and we just sit.
After a few minutes, she decides to say something to end the numbing silence in the room, which was lively only moments ago.
"Are you okay?"
"Yeah," I respond bringing myself out of the void.
"Do you want to get out of here for a bit?"
I nod and get up from the bed. She keeps her head down as we walk out, while I watch my parents angry faces.
"Where are you going?"
"Out," I open the door for Bella.
"Where?" I can hear my fathers tone grow more angry, which only pushes me forward.
"Out. Honestly, don't pretend that you care," I grab my bag, and pull it on to my shoulder as I slam the door behind me.
We walk without a plan of where to go. I need to be away from my parents, so it honestly doesn't matter where we are headed.
"Where should we go?" Bella asked after we pass a few streets.
"I'm not sure," I look around, trying to figure out where we are. I see a familiar shop, to which I point out to her.
Once we walk up, I get the door before going in, "I'll go order some drinks," I point to a table for Bella to go to, while I go to the till.
"Hey Luna," one good thing about this place, everyone knows me, since Ryan's mom owns the place.
"Hey Dylan, is Mrs. Jeffery still working?" It is a Tuesday, so the odds are pretty good.
"One moment," he disappears into the back for a moment, and returns with her.
"Hey, hun."
It's always nice to see Mrs. Jeffery, especially since she has been there for me since the beginning of all the stuff with my parents. Ryan and I have been friends since we were six, having met in preschool, and ever since, we'd spend a lot of time at his house. So I got quite close with his family.
"Hey," I'm trying really hard not to breakdown, especially with Bella just a few tables away.
Unfortunately, she can see right through me, "what's going on, hun?"
"My parents are back, and we got into a fight."
"About?"
"My relationship with Bella."
"Oh come one, that is none of their damn buisness."
"Yeah, they sure think otherwise."
"Your parents are really something else."
"Aren't they?" She grabs two glasses and makes some drinks, "do you think Bella and I could stay with you guys until my parents leave?"
"Of course, how long are they around this time?"
"Week and a half," I give a half assed smile.
"You're kidding," her tone drops, "well, you know you're always welcome to stay with us."
"Thank you," I take the drinks as she begins to head back into her office, "are you sure you're okay with Bella and I staying together?"
"Hun, I trust you," she smiles, "come by whenever, and let me know if you need me to take you girls to get some of your stuff."
"Sounds good, see ya."
I walk over to the table, as Bella's attention comes to me.
"Sorry that took me so long."
"No worries, I've been enjoying how beautiful this place is."
"Yeah," I hand her the mug, and sit down, "Mrs. Jeffery designed it all really well."
She gives me a confused look.
"Ryan's mom is the owner, and she's been more of a mom to me than my own, so I've spent a lot of time here, helping her decorate and design things for it."
"Oh, well, it's a really nice place," she pauses for a moment, "would this be our "first date" then?"
"I don't know, I'd say either this or maybe the rocks?"
"I think we should count this, since I'm not gonna kiss you and runaway worried about what I'd just done."
"That sounds like a good plan," she manages to lift my spirits, at least a bit.
We talk and laugh and enjoy our time together. I immediately feel so much better, just being with her. The thought keeps coming around, 'if everything had happened earlier, when we'd initially caught feeling for one another, would it all feel the same as it does now?' But, as much as it comes around, I would never want to know the answer, because we are here now and I wouldn't change it for the world.
We finish up, and begin to head out.
"So, what now?" She leans against me, taking my hand.
"Well, I spoke to Mrs. Jeffery, she said we can stay with them as long as we need."
"Oh, that's awesome."
"Yeah, they have a guest room we can stay in."
"Oh, okay. So, are we just heading there now?"
"We can, or we can go and find other things to do?"
"Sure, it's still pretty early, when do we need to be at Ryan's?"
"As long as we're not later than 10:00, Mr. Jeffery will still be awake, so he can let us in."
"Alright, and obviously we won't be out that late, since we still have school tomorrow."
"Yes, we do."
"I think we should go find food, my stomach will not stop growling."
"I could've grabbed something at the cafe."
"We were talking, and I honestly didn't notice I was hungry."
"Alrighty then, to food we go."
