Ivy's POV

"Morning," I greeted Father as I walked into his hospital room; my cup of Starbucks in one hand, a book in my other.

"Good morning princess," he smiled.

The past week he has been doing much better. He is slowly gaining his strength back day by day.

"Where's Ana and Penny?"
"Penny's out on yet another date and I told Ana to go treat herself to some shopping; she's always so worried about me."

"They nearly killed you," I tried to argue for Ana.

"But they didn't. I'm right here and I'm fine," he rolled his eyes.

I shook my head at him and plopped down in my usual spot; the chair next to his bed.

As I opened my book and began reading, Father clicked the TV on but kept it on low volume not to disturb other patients next door.

It remained like this for awhile.

"How's Harry doing?" Father blurted out.

I glanced up from my book at him. He sat in the bed, looking down at his bruised knuckles.

"We're not together anymore," I quietly replied, trying not to break down.

"Oh," he hummed.

I bit my tongue from saying anything else and returned to reading my book, but I couldn't. My mind was off in another place.

Mother was only here for three days before returning to wherever it is that she lives now with her new husband and his children.

Even when she was here, she visited Father once and that was only for five minutes.

A knock on the door pulled my from my thoughts.

One of the young nurses walked in with a clipboard resting on her hip; dressed in floral scrubs and worn out white Nike's.

"Good news Dean," she greeted him.

Father had insisted that all the doctors and nurses call him by his first name so he doesn't feel as old.

"You're transferred back to London. It'll only be a few more days before you should be discharged there."

"Thank God," he sighed in relief. "I cannot take another day of hospital food."

The nurse laughed as she wrote something down on the clipboard of papers and slid it into the little cubby at the end of his bed that held other clipboards.

"I guess this is goodbye," she smiled.
"Thank you for everything you've done for me; sneaking extra pudding cups included."

"You're welcome," she giggled. "Bye Ivy, take good care of your dad for me."

"I will," I laughed.
