Ivy's POV

"Good to have you back Ivy," Mack greeted me with a tight hug.

"Good to be back Big Mack," I teasingly used his nickname that everyone knew he hated.

He rolled his eyes.

"Your lucky I don't stick you on bathroom duties."

"You can't because you love me," I joked completely not realizing what I had just said.

Mack's cheeks burned bright red.

"I-uh-sorry," I quickly blushed.
"Let's just act like you never said it."
"Agreed," I nodded.

"Alright," Mack cleared his throat awkwardly. "You alright to run the counter again without going psycho on our customers."

"There's always a time to try, right?"
"And just shoot me a text or something if say- someone comes in that you would rather avoid."

"I know the drill," I nodded.

"Okay, don't break down on me kid."
"You're a couple months older than me," I rolled my eyes.

"A couples months is still a couple months," he stuck his tongue out childishly.

"Whatever Mack," I rolled my eyes again.
•••

A couple hours in and everything is going fine. I've managed to keep calm even when I felt like jumping over the counter and slapping a bïtch, but I took a deep breath each time and kept my cool.

Mack still comes to the counter every hour to check on me.

For my lunch break Mack even forced me to go out and get a pizza with him, just to give me a little break. He figured since it's my first day back I shouldn't push myself so hard.

But when we got back is when it all went back down hill; when my world crumbled right back down; when all those walls I spent a month to rebuild were smashed to pieces.

Mack had just gone back to the back of the shop to take care of some paper work after checking on me.

I was sitting on a stool behind the counter, my Nike covered feet propped up on another chair as I read my book.

The bell rang to signal the door had opened. I glanced up from my Nicolas Spark's book to find the curly haired devil I hated along with a random woman.

His eyes met mine with almost the same amount of surprise while the whore next to him carelessly smacked her gum annoyingly and picked at her expensive looking manicure.

"Can we hurry up? I gotta pick up my cat from the vet in an hour," she whined.

I wanted to stand up and face him like a pro; to be able to help them with a smile on my face, but I couldn't.

When she snuggled into his chest, I broke down.

"One second," I fake smiles at them.

I stood from my seat, slammed my book down on the counter, and hurried to go get Mack.

My fist pounded on Mack's office door.

He quickly opened the door.

When tears began to fall freely from my eyes, he immediately knew what was wrong.

"It's alright," he soothed me. "Take a seat and I'll take care of him. Make yourself a cup of coffee, lay down on the couch in my office if you need."

"Thank you Mack," I sniffled.

He patted my back before he brushed past my shoulder and hurried to take care of Harry's order.

I walked into Mack's office and plopped down on the couch. I curled up into a ball and did my best not to sob.

Within minutes Mack was back in his office, a sympathetic look on his face.

"You want me to call Lacey to come get you or are okay to work some more?" He questioned.

"Can you call Lacey?" I sobbed.
