The next weekend.
As I remain anxious in front of my apartment, waiting for the limousine that looks out of place in this environment, a single car passes by me... it stops a little in front of me, and from the driver's seat, Masaya emerges.
Kana "Masaya?"
Masaya "What are you looking so surprised?"
Kana "Well, there are a number of things that are different about you today."
Masaya "Pfft! What's that supposed to mean?"
Today's Masaya is really different than usual. First, is the fact that he had driven here.
Also, the slight unbalance between his suit and the fact that he let his hair down.
Kana "Today you're wearing a suit and yet you've let your hair down."
Masaya "Styling my hair is a form of armor to me. I don't think I need to wear armor just because I'm visiting your parents."
Kana "That being said... I'm surprised you can drive/"
Masaya "You should know, I'm good at practically everything."
(My note: Even cooking?)
Saying this, my lover heads toward his car. Seen from the surface, he may come across as pompous and stuck up. But most of the time, he is just being honest. Unlike me, who is nervous to see her own parents, it isn't a big deal for him.
---
Watching Masaya from the front passenger's seat is a refreshing experience and I am involuntarily swept up in it.
Masaya "Do you mind if I stop at a service area? I think I will style my hair after all."
Kana "Why?"
Masaya "Because I think you consider me 'cute' right now."
Kana "Huh?"
Masaya "You've been staring me all this time."
Kana "Ah!... hehe!"
Masaya "What is it?"
Kana "I'll admit that when you put your hair down... you do look 'cute' but the reason I was watching you was because it's rare to see you driving."
Masaya remains silent in response to my answer. He looks ahead, even as his face turns red.
Masaya "Stop distracting me."
Kana "Thanks to you, I think my nervousness has somewhat abated/"
Masaya "What about my nervousness?"
Kana "Are you nervous?"
Masaya "Huh?! Of course, I am!"
He stares at me vigorously for a moment, then he lets out a large sigh and looks ahead.
Masaya "So, this is the pressure a man goes through, when he wants someone's hand in marriage."
Kana "You've put me at ease. I thought I was the only one who was nervous..."
Masaya "I'm also nervous...about whether or not I am the right person for you."
Kana "It's alright. After all, you're the man I fell in love with."
Masaya "Idiot..."
His abusive language is filled with affection, creating a sense of reassurance between us.
(My note: What a weird caption... sounds like a masochist...)
Kana "But why is it, that you didn't set your hair?"
Masaya "It would be a problem if they found me intimidating, wouldn't it?"
Kana "You can leave your hair down. The 'cute' Masaya is more docile than the regular one."
Masaya "I've decided to put my hair up."
Kana "Why? It's fine like that."
Masaya "For your parents, I am the villain that is taking their daughter from them. I must be fully prepared for battle."
The childish side that Masaya shows me unfairly grips my heart. The road to my parent's house, which had been filled with nervousness, has now, however, changed to a sense of anticipation in getting to show this man to my parents.
