Today is my twentieth birthday.
The only thing I am looking forward to is seeing Cole.
For the past week we have been living in our own world.
He took me back to his place after the fair and we made out some more before deciding to watch a movie. We fell asleep in his bed together.
The past week when we've had time to see each other we take that opportunity. If we don't see each other we're texting.
We haven't gone past making out, it has more to do with me though.
I think I am scared to take that next step. Not with Cole personally just in general.
Even though I want to ignore and forget about my past I can't, it's still there. The memories of him.
I hate him.
Deciding I need to get him out of my head I call Bailey.
She picks up after the third ring.
"Happy birthday bitch!" She practically screams in my ear.
I pull the phone away before putting it back up to my ear, "Don't ever scream in my ear again Bee."
She laughs, "What's on your agenda today birthday girl?" She asks.
"My roommate and I are hanging out." I say.
I don't mention the party or Cole.
If I mention the party Bailey will add it to her list of reasons why she doesn't like Jasmine. I really don't get what her problem is with Jasmine.
The moment Bailey met her she was unimpressed. I am still not sure why.
I don't mention Cole because well then she'll freak. Probably ask too many questions that I am not ready to answer.
One being what we are.
I am not sure on that. I mean we've made out a few times but nothing more. He hasn't voiced what we are and I am too scared to ask. Reminder I made the first move.
Bailey gags, "Alone?" She asks. "Yeah we might stay in watch a movie."
"You could ditch her and we could FaceTime all night." She suggests.
"Oh no it's cool Bee." I say. Not that I wouldn't love to sit and talk with my best friend for hours. I would actually really love that.
I just get to see Cole tonight and that is something I won't pass up.
"How's California?" I ask changing to subject. "Good, classes are too. Noah and I have already made our plans to visit dad during thanksgiving." She says.
"So you guys are going there for thanksgiving?" I ask.
"Yeah grandma really wants us to come down there this year. She says she has a surprise for us." I laugh, with that woman a surprise truly is a surprise.
I look at the time realizing I only have an hour to get ready.
Jasmine said to dress nice but not too nice. I decided to make a dress for tonight.
It's a sundress that comes down to my mid thigh and has short sleeves. It's white with red flowers.
"Is Cal coming there for thanksgiving?" She asks. "Yeah I think he's actually gonna be here for the day after instead of actually on thanksgiving."
His classes run late that Wednesday so he's going to fly out Thursday instead. Which means he'll be here Friday, the day after Thanksgiving.
We talk for a few more minutes before I tell her I have to get off.
"Ok well I'll see you in like two months, love you Dee." She says, "Love you too Bee." We hang up and I start getting ready.
I decide on a light make up look tonight, just some concealer, mascara and lip gloss. I let my hair fall in it's natural waves.
Grabbing my dress I throw it on before lacing up my Doc Martens.
I text Jasmine to let her know I'm ready. She sends me the address and I get in my car.
When I arrive I realize she rented a house.
I didn't know you could do that.
Grabbing my phone I head towards the house.
Entering it I realize it's huge.
Music is playing and a bunch of people I don't know are dancing.
Looking around my eyes scan the crowd for one person.
Cole.
"Happy birthday!" A familiar voice shouts.
No it's not Cole.
I smile, "Thanks Jaz." I say realizing Louis is standing beside her. He just gives me a nod.
Cool.
She grabs my arm hauling me through the crowd, "Where are we going?" I ask her confused.
We stop and I realize there is a make shift stage in front of us, with instruments.
I look over to Jasmine and she beams, "Just wait."
The music that was playing stops and slowly the guys make their way on stage.
Cole makes his way to the mic in front. He's in a black sweater, light washed cuffed jeans, and chucks.
His sleeves on the sweater are rolled up to his elbows showing off some of his tattoos.
"How is everyone doing tonight?" He asks and cheers erupt around me.
His eyes scan the crowd until they find mine. Oh gosh I think I forgot how to breath.
He gives me a wink and yep, definitely forgot how to breath.
"The band and I want to wish a very special happy birthday to Delilah Scarlett Anders-" He points to me, "Babe this ones for you."
Spencer claps his sticks together counting them off.
Then I hear it, the familiar song.
My heart begins to race when he starts to sing the all too familiar lyrics.
Tears prickle in my eyes as I begin to sing along.
"Does it ever drive you crazy, just how fast the night changes?"
This is probably the best thing anyone has ever done for me. Everything inside of me turns into mush. The feelings I have for Cole amplify.
Cole is singing One Direction, to me. He's singing Night Changes.
Oh gosh, oh gosh, oh gosh.
"It will never change me and you."
The song finishes and I am left standing there speechless.
Cole finds my gaze again, "Delilah baby, you light up my world like no body else."
Oh my goodness
Jasmine squeals from beside me, "OMG that was so cute." She says but I don't pay attention to her.
No, I need to find Cole.
