"What....?" You had heard rumors. Your husband was not a very nice man. He drunk too much, smoked too much, and ate too much. You had just assumed that it was the drink that killed him, as did everyone else.

"I spent far too many years married to a brute like that. I saw the way you flinched when he was near. The bruises around your wrists and neck. The split lip and dark under your eyes which you tried your best to cover." Her voice lowered as she took your hands in her own, stroking the tops of your knuckles with her thumbs.

"You are so smart. So funny. So strong. When I got to know you, I saw those sparks deep inside you slowly turning to flames. Only to be snuffed out as soon as he came along, leaving you empty and scared. You were a different person when he was absent. You were happy, you smiled and laughed and blushed and giggled and... I didn't want that to ever stop." Her green eyes looked deeply into yours as you both sat on the bed, her hands still holding yours with a firmness that made you feel so safe.

"It would have been too troublesome to do it here, so the day the two of you left Kings Landing, I had your husband's morning drink laced with a slow acting poison. My maester assured me it would kill him by sunset, seemingly stopping his heart. It was no secret that your late husband liked to indulge in wines and fine foods. I knew his death would be attributed to that, which would leave you free. I did not expect you to join the Royal Court, I had hoped you would, but my only wish at that time was for you to be free." The Queen's shoulders fell, the relief from her confession visible on her face.

"You had him killed... So I would be free. Then why try to have me wed, after all this time?" You wondered aloud.

The golden haired woman let out a large sigh and folded her hands in her lap. "I'm not a young woman anymore. We've been together for near enough two years now and... In truth..." she hesitated, but after you have her an encouraging glance she continued, "I feared you would tire of me. I've taken many lovers, y/n. But none who I have felt so deeply for. I feared you would grow bored of me and eventually accept the proposal one of the many Lords vying for your hand. So I tried to prevent that day from coming by arranging it myself."

"My love, my Queen, I will never tire of you. You are the only person to ever show me what it is to love and to be loved. Every moment we spend together, I dread ending. I would hold you forever if I only could." You say, this time taking her hands in your yours.

"You saved me from a terrible life, with no expectation of anything in return. Yes, you've done things that some would call wicked. But only to protect your loved ones. And I am honoured to be one of those loved ones." You say, lifting her her hands and pressing them to your chest.

"So you aren't angry?" The Lannister questioned.

"How could I be? You saved me. And not only that, you've shown me such love and tenderness which I never knew before. I love you, My Lioness."

"I love you too, My Little Bird. Now let us get a maid to clean this mess up while we break our fast." The Queen smiled, taking your hand and leading you out of the room.

You would never try to part again.
