"How could you?!" You screamed. Hot tears tumbled down your cheeks, dripping from your jaw as you screamed at your former lover.

The woman stared at you. Her jaw was set and her face neutral, yet her green eyes were glittering with tears that were so close to spilling.
Taking a shaky breath, the woman softly said "I did what I thought was best. He is wealthy, y/n. Wealthy and from a powerful house. You will be set for life."

"Surely you of all people would know the pain of being married off to some fat oaf of a Lord? I thought you loved me Cersei..." You spat, your voice lowering with anger.

You swept past the Queen and stormed out of her chambers. Normally you wouldn't dare to be so rude to her, but you couldn't handle what was happening.
You had been lovers for almost two years after you joined the Royal Court. And now, she had sold you to some Lord who you didn't even know, just as her father had done to her.

At 24 summers old, you were a young widow. You met the Queen shortly before your husbands death, when you joined the Royal Court. You quickly fell for the Lioness, and were able to stave off any potential suitors by claiming your heart broken by your late husbands untimely death. You wouldn't have to marry again. True, your coffers were running low but Cersei promised she would always provide you with everything you needed. She even gave you chambers in the keep, and a handmaid she chose herself. Just for you.
You kicked yourself for believing the lies. It was obvious now that it was all false promises to keep you close to her, so she could use you and toy with you.

Reaching your rooms, you dismissed your handmaid for the night and planned your next move. Trust Cersei to tell you now, just before sundown when there would be no one to confide in and no where to run.

Slipping on a light cloak, you decided to walk in the gardens. It wasn't exactly the most ideal time, but you needed to think and your room suddenly felt far too small and suffocating. Your chambers were near the heart of the keep, only a few rooms away from Cersei's. If she was looking for you, or had guards looking for you, it would be easy for them to find you. You didn't want any more arguments for now, no more pain or shouting. You just needed to think, and you couldn't do that around Cersei.

Pulling your cloak tightly around your body, you descended the spiral staircase at the end of the corridor in which your rooms were located. You hated these staircases, they always made you dizzy when you took them too fast. Nonetheless, you pressed on and soon reached the bottom. Dropping your skirts and smoothing them out you continued your walk to the gardens.

The cooling air already began to clear the fog of emotions that were swimming in your mind. You didn't have much gold, but you had enough to get on a boat to... Somewhere. You couldn't refuse the engagement, King Joffrey would take it as an insult to his mother. You either had to accept and be forced to live as an heir making, subservient wife with no freedoms. Or you could run.

The next morning, you had decided. Your handmaid couldn't be trusted, as a cousin of the Queen, she could betray you easily. Dismissing her once again, you set to work.

You couldn't take much with you, owing to your lack of physical strength and the fact that you would be doing everything alone. You pulled a cloth bag from the bottom of your dresser and set it on the bed. Everything would have to fit in here, which meant only essentials. Realising this, you decided to only take a few of your jewels (which could be sold if needed) and some light gowns.

You began to trawl through your drawers, tossing items onto your bed. So much would need to be left behind, not just material items, but memories. Friends. Loved ones, well... Former loved ones.
Sighing, you sat on the cold stone floor and allowed your emotions to wash over you. You loved her so much it hurt.
Drawing your knees to your chest, one of Cersei's old nightgowns clutched in your hands, you began to weep. She gave you this the first time she had to travel away from the keep.
"Even though I will not be there, you will still feel my presence, my sweet." you remembered her saying to you, the evening before she left.

Lifting the silk to your face, you inhaled. The smell of the Queen still lingered, even after a year of being in the bottom of your drawer. This only made you feel worse. Your tears grew bigger, your sobs grew heavier, leaving you breathless and your face stinging.
Your door clicked open, prompting you to snap your head in its direction. Your cries ceased.

There she was. The light from the large stained glass windows behind her caused her golden hair to glow ethereally.
"Your Grace." You said, no emotion in your words despite your current state.
Looking around the room, Queen Cersei assumed what you were planning. A look of pain and regret flickered on her face. She slowly walked over to you, kneeling infront of you, taking your tear stained face in her hands.
"My sweet thing. Im only doing what is best for you. I won't be around to look after you forever." She said, her voice slightly softer than usual.

"You think I don't know that? I'm not an idiot, Cersei." You snapped, standing up and throwing the Queen's old gown to the ground. "I knew that from the beginning, yet I still stayed. I rejected suitor after suitor, all to ensure I could stay with you. So we could be together."
You turned your back to your former lover and began to fold the gowns you had placed on your bed.
Cersei looked curiously at the light green, silken fabric you threw to the floor, picking it up to inspect it.
"You kept this?" She whispered, shocked.
"What?" You asked, turning to face her. "Oh... Yes, I did. You can take it back, I have no wish to keep it now." you said, coldly. It pained you to be so harsh to her, but you didn't want her to hurt you any more than she already had.

"I barely slept that whole trip. Maybe I should have taken one of your gowns with me, instead of you having mine." She chuckled sadly.

You merely hummed at her words, continuing your folding. You heard the Queen rise from the floor, but didn't stop what you were doing.

The Lionesses arms warmed you as she slowly wrapped them around your waist from behind. Freezing in place, you waited for her to speak as she pulled you close and rested her head next to yours.
"I was a fool to think I could part from you, y/n." She whispered in your ear. "I sent a letter of apology and a rescission of betrothal as soon as I woke... You no longer have to marry."

Your breath caught in your throat. You knew that Cersei would rarely go back on her word, and would only even retract offers if it was needed or beneficial to her. From a woman like her, this was practically a profession of love.

Attempting to keep your calm and detached facade, you spoke. "Really? Why would you do that? I suppose you would miss me warming your bed, but we both know I can be easily replaced." You stepped away from her embrace and turned on your heels to face her. Her face was now angry, offended even.

"I know you are hurt, but don't you dare act like I only care for what's between your legs. Why do you think your husband died? Healthy men don't just pass in their sleep, my love." She smirked at you.
