The Queen paced the wide hallways of the Red Keep, her mind racing after the events of the days court. She often found that walking the Keep at night allowed her time to process and think about the unwanted thoughts and notions that took residence in her mind.
Cersei knew most of the myriad of passages and secret paths and alcoves in the Keep, as her nighttime wanderings were not infrequent.
She rounded one of her favourite places, a seemingly dead ended corridor that had a great stuffed boars head upon the wall. The Queen padded up to it and held her lantern aloft. Reaching her hand up to the left tusk that protruded from the creatures mouth, she pulled on it and a soft grinding sound came from the wall behind.
Pushing the wall to the side, just enough to slip through, Cersei eased herself into the room. Pushing the wall again, she sealed herself in.
She was about to turn and light the fire when in her peripheral vision she realised the room was illuminated by an eerie silver-blue glow.
Bracing herself, the Queen turned and froze in horror at what she saw. The lantern in her slender hand rattled as she shook.A woman, young and translucent looking, stood before her smiling benignly.
-
"Hello there." You smile, a quizzical look on your face. "I didn't know anyone knew of my little room."
The woman before you shuddered, looking almost as pale as you.
"It's okay, I have no desire to hurt you." You reach a hand tenderly towards her, the other pressed against your chest. "My name is y/n"
"Cersei." The woman stuttered, passing her hand over her face as if it would make you disappear.
"It's a pleasure to meet you, My Lady." You reply, stepping back and sitting on one of the small couches in your room. "Please sit with me."
Cersei shakily nodded, crouching to light the fire before she sat on the couch next to yours.
A few minutes passed and the woman's trembling eased a little. Bravery taking her, she spoke. "Who are you and what are you?"
You ceased staring at the fire and instead turned your gaze to the living woman. She was beautiful, a kind of beauty only found in ballads and poems. "As I stated, I am y/n. Lady y/n Gallaeron. I was killed by King Maegor in response to my aiding Queen Rhaena in her escape during the uprising."
Taken aback, the golden haired woman stares at you. "Queen Rhaena?...King Maegor?" She shook her golden curls and squeezed her eyes shut, her trembling resuming. "You can't have... Unless..."
"Unless?"
Swallowing, she answered in a shaky voice "Unless you're dead. My brother Tyrion mentioned once that there are superstitions of people's spirits lingering in instances of anger or cruelty around their demise."
"Would you consider being strangled to death for helping a woman flee a horrible cruel fate?" You ask.
"Very." She replied, her lips pressed into a line. For the first time, she looked at your face. "You did a good thing. I was not able to avoid my marriage to a fat cruel man-child."
You nod solemnly, "Your Lord is not good to you?"
"The King. He was not. Everyday I thank the Gods he is dead."
"The Targaryens can be cruel and mad and spiteful. I am glad you are free of him, Your Grace." You smile, turning your body more towards her.
Chuckling softly, she spoke "He killed the last of the Targaryens. He was a Baratheon. As is our son, the current King."
"The Seven Kingdoms ruled by a Baratheon..." You consider this for a moment. "Far better than a Targaryen."
Cersei sighed "Sometimes I have my doubts." A few moments passed and the Queen picked up her lantern again.
Turning to you, she says "I will be back tomorrow at this same time. If you truly are the spirit of a murdered Lady and not just madness in my head, I should like to see you again."
-
The ghost bowed to the Queen and smiled as she watched her depart.
