33. grasping for air
THE SUPREMACY ROCKED WHILE fairing through a large band of meteors and other debris, it made Vada stumble against the wall of the training room."Keep your balance!" Kylo commented, "if you're not even able to stand with a little turmoil, what would you have done if this wasn't a friendly fight."
Vada scoffed, a little annoyed, "I'd hardly call this fight friendly." Kylo narrowed his eyes but didn't respond, he was getting tired of her sarcastic remarks during their training sessions.
He moved around her in circles, a staff in hand, waiting for the right time to strike. "You need to be ready for every situation."
She rolled her eyes, though never let them leave him while she awaited his attack. "Relax, I slipped, it won't happen every time."
Then, he did strike. Staff high up in the air, aiming for her head while letting out a low growl. She easily dodged it and counteracted it with an attack of her own, aiming her staff at his legs. He dodged that, too. "You can't afford to slip, during a real fight."
Vada let out a small chuckle. "I hope you're not this worried for my safety around others Kylo, they might start to think you're going soft," she taunted.
"I doubt it," he mumbled, striking again, more aggressively this time. She took a step back and blocked his blow with her staff. She tried to push him back, but he pushed back even harder. She kept taking more steps back, until she was met with the wall. Even though he was already inches away from her, he kept pushing, and she kept trying to resist his force.
Realizing she wasn't going to win by pure strength, she decided to switch up her strategy to one he'd probably never approve of during their training. She tried to enter his mind.
Focusing her energy towards him, she tried to break down the walls of his defense. When he realized what she was doing his eyes widened slightly. "Stop it," he demanded harshly. But she didn't listen. She focused even more, visualizing his walls coming down brick by brick, until finally, she was in.
"...I will finish what you started..." she heard Kylo's voice first.
"...I can't read her..."
Then she heard Snoke, "...do not let her out of your sight..."
The last words she heard were of a woman, a voice she thought she'd heard before but couldn't quite place, "...Ben..."
