Dream POV

Dream listened as the sound of George's breathing deepened, signaling the brunette was asleep.

Silently, he sat up and reached for his flashlight. Carefully twisting the top of the flashlight to a dimmer setting, he clicked it on. Squinting in the dark, Dream stood and quietly made his way to where George was sleeping.

The boy was laying on his side with his arm tucked under his head, his chest rising and falling slowly with each soft breath. Dream smiled as he noticed the idiot had somehow fallen asleep with his weird white clout goggles still on.

Being careful not to dislodge any loose stones, Dream crouched down. Placing the flashlight on the ground, gently reached out and lifted the goggles from George's head, setting them within George's reach for when he woke up. The pretty boy's eyelashes fluttered, but he remained asleep. Pulling off his gloves, Dream swept George's soft brown hair from his eyes, letting his fingers trail from his forehead down to his cheek.

His heart felt like it was being squeezed. This was the first time he'd ever met George in person, and their reunion couldn't be more fucked up. Hell, apocalypse aside George didn't even know that this was a reunion of sorts. Dream bit his lip. And I don't want him to ever find out. But will I be able to bear it? I know some part of me still loves him. Some part of me never moved on and never will.

After a few moments of studying George's peaceful face, he couldn't help but feel relieved that he found him. That he was alive and Dream could keep him safe. Selfishly grateful that he wasn't completely alone anymore.

Dream stroked George's hair one last time before he returned to his side of the cave, settling down and falling asleep to the comforting sound of George's breathing.

The next day...

"What the fuck!" George covered his head, ducking behind a boulder as Dream swung his battle ax, slicing the head off the giant mutant spider that was lunging for them. George squealed as the eight-eyed head rolled by his hiding place.

Dream grinned under his mask, enjoying George's dramatics. He was used to the abundance of monsters roaming around during the day, but the brunette clearly was not.

"Relax," Dream raised his ax above his head as the monster's body writhed on the ground. Plunging the ax's blade deep into the creature's heart, he endured the blood spray as it finally stopped moving. "Anyone would think this was your first day outside, Georgie."

George shot Dream a glare. "You know full well I haven't left my camp and its borders."

"Ah, yes. Princess Georgie trapped in his castle waiting for his knight. I'm honored."

George's face went bright red. "Shut up, idiot!"

Dream wheezed, swinging the handle of his ax between the straps of his backpack so he wouldn't have to carry it in his hands. "Make me, princess."

"Whatever," George finally emerged from behind the boulder. Dream didn't miss the way he avoided looking at the monster's corpse. "Why are there so many monsters anyways? That's the sixth one and we've only been out here two hours."

"That's just what its like out here." Dream started walking towards the abandoned houses in the distance, feeling a trickle of pride as George walked unusually close to him. These monsters were useful for one thing at least.

"Liar," George poked Dream's shoulder with a finger. "I didn't see any monsters before the one in the ravine."

Dream didn't have the heart to tell him that might have something to do with Dream being there. He remembered killing quite a few monsters before entering the ravine. He was surprised the brunette didn't run into any of the corpses.
