Chapter 36

DreamXD POV

"GEORGE!" 

DreamXD's screech ripped from his throat, wide eyes locked on the bleeding form of his whole world. Panic and terror unlike anything he'd ever felt tore through his blood, roaring in his ears. 

In a blur of unbridled rage, he summoned his scythe. Green light reflected off the blade, slicing the dragon's talon in half, the smaller half still embedded in George404's chest. The brunette swayed, and DreamXD caught him gently, wrapping the smaller god in his arms. George404's eyes were glazed with shock, body racked with tremors. 

A howl pierced the air, the dragon reeling back. TechnobladeND intercepted the massive creature as it attempted to lunge forward. Blood from the pink-haired god's battle with the dragon rained down. 

DreamXD leaned over George404, shielding him from the scarlet rain with his wings. Red splattered his once-white wings, staining the pristine feathers in filth. Another voice screamed nearby, but DreamXD couldn't hear it. Lifting his love's broken body in his arms, he flew away, instinct screaming at him to take the brunette somewhere safer. 

George404's breathing was growing slow in his arms, gasping weakly. Warm blood soaked through DreamXD's cloak, every drop burning all the way to the dirty blond's heart.

Touching down in a quiet field of wilted flowers, DreamXD laid George404 on his lap, kneeling in what once was a beautiful place. He pulled off his mask, tossing it aside.

George404 whimpered, his blood-stained lips moving softly. 

"Shhh, baby, I've got you... I..." DreamXD caressed the brunette's face, hugging him close. "I won't... I won't let you go... I'm here.."

Tears streaked down DreamXD's cheeks, flowing uncontrollably. His mind kept screaming for George404 to be okay, when deep down he knew this was an injury no god could recover from. Not even Techno could keep him alive. 

It was as though DreamXD's heart was shredding, his mind crashing into the depths of darkness while he watched his whole world shatter. 

"Don't leave me... please." DreamXD sobbed, golden-tinted tears dropping to gently slide down the brunette's face. "Please... I'm begging you... my love... you can't leave me alone..."

George404's eyes blinked up at him. Those eyes... those beautiful eyes. Eyes that never failed to captivate DreamXD, stealing his heart with a single glance. 

Whimpers slipped past DreamXD's lips at the pain in the blue and brown depths. And the love. Oh, the love. Deep, bottomless pools of love, drowning DreamXD in the warmth and sorrow.

DreamXD collapsed, hunching his body over George404's, shaking violently as he wrapped his wings around his lover. Blood was still spilling out around the talon, spreading through the ground beneath them, dripping down their bodies. 

This couldn't be happening, it just couldn't. Not his Georgie, anyone but the only person he'd ever loved. The one who was his everything. Why did he have to leave him alone?! He should have stayed, protected him, even taken him with them.... 

"Please... please... I love you so much... anyone but you...take me instead... just please." DreamXD cried, darkness wrapped his vision until all he could see was his love, his world, his everything slipping away in his arms.

A soft, gentle hand brushed his cheek. DreamXD placed his hand over George404's, squeezing delicate, cold fingers in his own. Glistening tears welled in heterochromatic eyes. 

"I love you, too..." George404 breathed out weakly. "I... so much... my... sweet... feral...boy.." 

George404's chest heaved, blood gushing from his mouth in a gasp. The light in his eyes was beginning to dim, never leaving his lover's heartbroken face.
