Kingdom of the Red Rose
(Episode 28 of 62)
Chapter Eleven: The First Training Mission
(Part 2 of 3)

Griffin faded out of Purgatory when they faded into the Earth realm, they found themselves standing outside a castle, in knee deep snow.

"I guess I should be thankful you didn't fade us into the moat's freezing waters," Haron flew up and hovered above the cold snow.

"My calculation was a little off. It's my first fade into Earth you know," Griffin complained, "Besides, that's the room of the old man," he pointed at a window high up the castle, out of which candlelight was flickering.

"Then let's fade again, hopefully this time arriving inside the room."

Griffin faded into the room and Haron appeared in front of him.

"There, that was better, wasn't it?" Griffin said proudly.

"You think this was an excellent fade in?"

"I got us in the room, didn't I?"

"Touch Grim Reaper in the next three seconds and I will give you a perfect score on your first evaluation. I'll even ignore the chilly fade in you did at the start," Haron placed his scythe in front of him, waiting for Griffin to touch it, "One."

"I don't understand."

"Do you want a perfect score or not? Two."

Griffin jumped forward and stretched out his hand, trying to grab Grim Reaper. His jump was cut short, and he fell to the ground face first without touching the scythe.

Haron burst into laughter, "Yes, perfect fade in indeed," and moved next to the bed in the room, on which an old man was sleeping.

Griffin shook his head, trying to recover from the blow. As he looked back, he realized what had happened. As he faded into the room, the end of his robe was caught inside the wall. He faded out and pulled his robe free from the wall before joining Haron.

"Now remember," Haron said as they stood over the dying old man, "They can't see or hear us unless we want them to. I suggest you just wait until the soul is released and then try to collect it without using your Soul-Chain. As you already know, you won't be able to offer this soul a Reaper's Choice. Stick to procedures and we should be done in less than thirty minutes."

Griffin nodded his head and silently watched the old man, waiting for him to die and his soul to release. It wasn't long before Griffin thought of an idea, something he wanted to try.
