ISADORE ¤ POV

Stares followed me wherever I walked throughout the day and I hunched over, trying not to let the predatory gazes I knew belonged to alphas overwhelm me. My shoulders were caved in, my head lowered, but I could hear their grunts and groans of judgment. Some were pissed about what happened to Landon and how immoral it was for me to steal his omega. Others simply blamed me for the large rift driven between the alphas and omegas at the sixth form. The omegas were keeping their distance and were outwardly expressing their objection to being treated like lesser beings. All my fault.

At one point, I’d felt Nelson’s threatening presence follow me down the hall to the study room. I hadn’t had a lesson last period and planned to settle down at a desk and write Aaron’s letter. His footsteps were light and his silent stalking was terrifying in itself. I knew he was after me without even having to turn around. I thought about running, but decided to save at least some pride and continue my usual pace.

Eventually I reached the study room just as Nelson caught up to me. I braced myself, cursing internally and readying to bare my neck. Today of all days I couldn’t take another seizure. It would be my third and there would be no instant recovery from a beating and three seizures all in one long day. But the blow never came, nor did his fist tangling in my hair like he’d seemed to favour doing when tormenting me.

Oliver seemed to appear out of nowhere, intercepting Nelson’s path and shoving him through an open door off the corridor. He caught Nelson off guard and the alpha stumbled, disappearing through the archway and into the empty classroom without having time to brace himself. My eyes widened as Oliver offered me a tight smile of reassurance before following after Nelson and slamming the door behind him.

I wasn’t stupid enough to leave him in there alone with a pissed off alpha and believe he’d be okay, no matter how confident Oliver was in himself. I’d never forgive myself if another omega got hurt because of me. I looked about frantically and my heartbeat almost stuttered with relief when I noticed our head of year, Mrs Bentham, coming around the corner. I couldn't physically help Oliver, but I could send her in his direction.

“Isadore, how are you? It’s been a while. I actually have a meeting scheduled with your father and grandmother, what a delightful change to have two guardians involved with your development. It’s great to see your grandmother getting some support,” she smiled at me and I barely had time to smile back as her words went through one ear and out the other. The middle aged alpha female came closer and I pointed back towards the classroom Oliver and Nelson were inside.

“I heard shouting, I think some of the year sevens snuck into our building again. They might have swiped a missing lanyard,” I told her, trying not to sound as frantic as I felt. Mrs Bentham scowled, picking up her pace.

“Those damn kids, you’d think they were still in primary school! Jesus, it’s in times like this when I prefer the american system. Eleven year olds and eighteen year olds should not be schooling together. They're still so immature,” she grunted under her breath as she reached the door, grabbed the handle and flung it open. “You kids better scram before I-”

She paused, eyes wide as she took in the sight of Nelson pinning Oliver to the floor with his weight in the middle of the room between two desks. Oliver’s face was red with the effort of struggling, but I noticed a large bruise on Nelson’s face where he’d obviously been struck. The air was thick with raging pheromones. I almost deflated with relief. Oliver was okay for the most part. They both froze, staring at Mrs Bentham whose face had turned pink with anger and disappointment.

“Get up, both of you,” she sighed, holding the door open. “My office, now please.” Nelson shot Oliver a raging glare before pushing himself up and walking towards the open door. His dark gaze scanned me over with malice and I almost took a step back. He cut his eyes away and started down the corridor.
