What I am about to tell you is the creepiest and weirdest experience I've ever had. No joke. I swear to you all that it is true.
My friend Dana and I were fresh out of high school and wanted to live together, so we moved into the an apartment (which I still live in today). This was about 2 years ago. About 3 weeks into moving in is when this creepy incident occurred.
It was around 8 at night. Dana was working and I was home watching TV. I can see the front door from the couch which is on the same side of the TV but slightly further back. This is crazy, but we used to never lock our doors except for when we both left the house or went to sleep. This was a mistake.
As I'm watching my show I hear footsteps coming up the stairs. I thought it was my neighbor or my Dana returning home. I remembered she didn't get off until 10pm, so the only other person was my neighbor. The footsteps stopped for awhile, and during that time I realized that I never heard my neighbors door open and close. Our apartment is pretty cheap and we can hear almost anything that goes on outside, including neighbors shutting doors. I didn't really think too hard on it, because I was into my show.
All of a sudden the front door swung open and in came this creepy girl who looked to be in her mid-thirties, and she had the most eerie smile on her face. It was a big, almost fake, smile and most all of her teeth was completely revealed. Her eyes were huge and I swear she didn't blink! She walked forward until she was at level with my TV and just stared with that smile on her face. I was utterly freaked out inside.
I asked her what she wanted, but instead of replying, she slowly walked towards me with her hands stretched out and fingers wiggling. As she was doing this, she hummed this odd tune. It was all over the place. I shouted at her before shooting up from the couch and running into my bedroom, locking the doors behind me. Unfortunately, I didn't bother grabbing my phone before fleeing, so I was stuck in my room.
I heard her approach my door, but she didn't try opening it. She just scratched at it, still humming that spooky tune, getting louder and louder. I wept heavily. I believed she heard me, because she began singing the song "hush little baby" or whatever it's called. She sang it walking away, though, because her voice got quieter and quieter. And then I heard her footsteps down the stairs and I knew she had left.
I peaked out the blinds and watched her leave the complex area. She stood out on the side walk, literally looking back and forth several times before she moved on. I quickly shut the front door and called Dana--which was dumb, I know. I don't know why people call their close ones first instead of the authorities, but I just did. Dana luckily answered and called the police for me, because for some reason I refused to get them involved. I was kind of in shock, I guess.
They came over and I gave them a description of the lady. Once I gave them that, they knew who I was talking about. Apparently she is a patient at the local mental hospital. Many patients are allowed to walk around. They usually walk to the store and back, but this lady like to do more than that. She walked into other houses and did creepy things to them. She even followed people around stores. Regardless of how many times she has harassed people, they never had her confined in jail or the hospital. Why??? Because, and I quote, "She is harmless. It's just her way of having fun."
WTF? Her fun is creeping people out and that is apparently okay, because she isn't right in the head. That makes no sense to me.. Maybe I'm making a big deal about this, idk, but personally I think they should do something. She's never returned, but I have seen her a few times. She still creeps me out. Dana laughs every time I tell this story to people. She thinks it's hilarious. What a great friend she is...
So, everyone, lock your doors or else you might be her next victim!
