Narrator POV
It was bad.
What Megan didn't know was, that, this was Ben and Evan's second strike. Evan had the privilege of being loaded, so his parents were able to buy Catherine off. Ben, however...wasn't so lucky. His parents, like Megan's, refused to love their kid as he was. With no where to go Ben had to pack his bags and leave the house.
That morning Ben had to say goodbye to his friends, right as breakfast was being served. Megan apologized but it would've made a difference, he still had to leave...alone .
Megan could feel eyes burning into her all morning. No one, but Ari, would even sit next to her. She felt so guilty but what was she supposed to do, they weren't supposed to be indulging in sin, but getting cured. At the time, Megan believed she had done the right thing and now all she felt was ignorance.
"I just wish I had seen a lil something, before little miss NARK over there ratted them out." Megan could hear Gio talking about her to the other group. Everyone just laughed while she slowly put her head down.
"Hey, don't even listen to them. You didn't do it on purpose" Ari reached out to Megan.
"I should've just kept my mouth shut. He has no where to go and it's all my fault." Megan kicked herself.
"Damn, I just hope you don't snitch on me and Kacie when we sneak out tonight." Megan looked up to see a smirking Bryce setting her plate down right next to Megan's. Kacie had sat down across from Megan and simply gave a small smile.
"This isn't a funny little joke. I basically ruined his life" Megan barked at Bryce, she wasn't in the mood for Bryce's antics.
"Would you relax. You didn't know that psycho was actually going to kick him out or anything." Bryce sent daggers towards Catherine, who was enjoying her lunch as if nothing had happened.
"But I should've, if I had just kept my mouth shut then maybe-"
"Oh my God" Bryce grabbed Megan by her shoulders and lightly shook her. "You fucked up, but one fuck up doesn't make you a shitty person for the rest of your life Megan. At least you feel remorseful unlike other people. You weren't the one that literally kicked him out, this isn't your fault."
Everyone remained quite for a while before Kacie started up a conversation on whether zebras where black with white stripes or white with black stripes. A small smile crept onto Megan's face and she slowly felt better. She couldn't believe, out of all people, Bryce was the one who had given her the pep talk she needed. Something about the way they sat so close together their knees touched, made Megan so nervous.
"What's your favorite animal" Bryce whispered to Megan as Kacie and Ari began a heated argument on who was right about zebras.
"Uh-..I don't know." Megan shrugged.
"Oh come on you've got to have some sort of favorite animal." Bryce nudged her slightly.
"I really don't know. What's yours?" Megan giggled.
"Hands down, gotta be a cheetah. They're so fast and they can just run anywhere at anytime."
"Sounds liberating. What I would give to be a cheetah right now and run away from this place." Megan sighed.
"Is it because you made a kid homeless or because you miss home." Bryce snickered.
"Shut up that's not funny" Megan punched Bryce in the arm.
