Kalani's POV
My head was pounding. I rubbed it a bit, but I didn't help. I could still hear the guns blazing, and they sounded nearer than ever.
I tried opening my eyes, but I couldn't see anything but blur out pictures. I could voice, but they were not auditable. I shook my head again, this time coming back to life. I touched my stomach and somehow, I knew,-that my baby was okay.
Our car was upside down, and when I looked around, everyone was out. Everyone, except Felix. I did a body count check, and somehow Placido was next to me. I could see Charlie by the door, Enzo next to him, and Rumi on top of him. They all looked like they had minor injuries. Enzo had stretched on his arms and forehead. Charlie's pants had some blood, and Placido looked fine. But he had blood on his nose. I couldn't see Rumi properly, but I hoped to the heavens she was ok.
I quickly rushed to each of them to check if they were ok, and they seemed fine. Our driver had passed out, and the guy next to him. But where was Dakota?
Oh my gosh...Where is my baby?
"Dakota!" I called out. I pushed through the ramble, tears welling up my eyes. Where is my baby? I looked outside the car, and I saw her nearby the bushes. Her leg looked disfigured and she had a lot of blood on her face.
Oh my gosh!
I gasped, covering my mouth with my hand. I didn't waste time thinking about what was happening. My gun was still in my hand, and there was a sling bag with grenades and refills of bullets. I quickly grabbed it and hung it over my shoulder, and I took off. My vision was a bit cloudy, but that didn't stop me.
I had a gash on the side of my forehead and I could feel blood dripping down my dress. The moment I got out of the car, the sun hit straight to my side gash, and it hurt like a mother.
A guy, not from the Montero household came out of nowhere. I shot him twice on the head, and he fell dead on the ground. Eva's car had stopped at the back of ours, her men protecting my people, shooting with everything they had.
As I stood up, limping towards Dakota, I saw another guy pointing a gun at Dakota. I immediately shot his arm, while he was still screaming, I shot his head.
Eva looked at me, and I looked at my daughter. She understood and I shouted at her, "Cover me!"
She nodded and I started running towards my daughter. I covered one ear with my hand that had a gun and I ran towards Dakota. When I was near her, three choppers came out of nowhere. And I knew it wasn't our guys because they directly started shooting at us with machine guns.
I shot back without looking at the chopper, my eyes on Dakota. When I got to her, I immediately picked her up and we hid behind a tree. I shook her, trying to wake her up but she wasn't responding.
"Come, baby, talk to mama." I shook her again, but still, she wasn't responding. I checked her pulse, but it was weak, going faint.
Oh gosh, please don't... I begging internally. Tears at this point were a pool of sanity for me.
I looked at my people, and they just kept falling like dominos. The boys, now conscious, kept their front with Eva and Felix, Rumi with her eyes shut, and her ears covered with her hands. The others, from the car in front, had stopped and come for us, but those choppers kept shooting at them. Those choppers had to go. It was the only way we had a chance at survival. But first, my baby girl.
I looked back at Dakota, and my tears fell on her cheek.
"Come on baby. Wake up for momma." I patted her left cheek.
