Montero' POV

We reach the checkpoint, we change cars. Not only that, but we change into more casual clothes, and when I say casual, I mean, Sicilian casual. The garage where we change cars is one owned by my father, so it was easier for us to transition.

The second ride was a bit hectic. My wife was fidgeting, and I could tell that if I didn't intervene, she would go under. Everything was out of our control and it was the most disorienting thing, but we had to keep moving. I hoped that everyone was okay.

"Honey, are you okay?" I ask, taking her hand, and I start rubbing it. She was not responding, and if nothing was gonna be done on my end now, things will go Souther than the south that it has already gone.

"Ricky, stop the car," I instruct our driver. He does not need to be told twice. He pulls over on the side of the road, and I exchange seats with Enzo. Once we have done that, the car starts moving again, and at this point, things are tense.

"Eva, is Eva okay?" She asks, looking into my eyes with the expectation that I will tell her what she longs to hear.

"I can't answer that question tesoro." I cup her small face into the palm of my hands. "But I do know that no matter what, she would want us to move okay?"

"Her kids, if anything happens, where do we start that conversation with them, they are kids, like our twins and how do we start explaining,-"

"Explaining what?" I question. "Love, they are okay. Unless we see something out of the ordinary, we can't rule out that they are hurt. No news is good news remember?" She hurriedly nods, as if there was a new hope, even if it was little, it was there that our people are okay.

"But,-"

"Love, breath okay, just breathe love," I whisper, pulling her into a side hug.

"Is momma already?" I hear Rumi inquire.

"Yes sweetheart, momma is just tired." Kalani rests her head on my shoulder and I keep patting her on the side of the arm to keep her from feeling bad, or any anxiety.

Beyond everything, my wife's health was of utmost significance and if she wasn't okay, nobody was. And if bodies had to fall to protect this Queen, they would fall accompanied with all the Italian raged blood within me.

This woman was both strength and beauty all wrapped in a human form, and as much as we, as men, protect our homes with guns and money, they do it in heartbeats and motherly wrath.

The code says, ex-mafia or not, mature men, who are not controlling and overly possessive of their wives and what they do, actually fear the wrath of their wives.

This woman is my other half, and you best believe when she says jump, I will willingly ask how high. The reason being, she makes a house a home, cares for those little devils we created, and still loves me after a long day working with other devils from other homes and, that kind of superpower is so underrated. But of course, I know her worth.

The worth of the love of my life. My heartbeat, she is oxygen itself, my infinity. The type of anchor that had me grounded to her and our kids.

And I'm not complaining, I love her more for it. Every day, when I wake up, I look at her and I realize that I love her more than the day before. The tiny forehead lines she developed over time, the beauty marks she got giving birth to our little miracles, the little giggles she has when she's trying to sound just right for something but fails, it was all these tiny little things that made me wanna protect this family with everything that I had.

Suddenly, just as I was appreciating the love of my life, my phone rang. My wife picks up her head from my shoulder and looks at me before looking at the caller ID. It was Johnathan. I immediately pick it up and I hear him take a heavy sigh.

"I'm glad you okay," he declares, taking more sighs. I look at my wife, and I nod at her, approving what she was asking by just looking at her eyes.

"Eva, how is she?" I ask on her behalf.

"She is good, we are good. I just wanted to check with you guys," he explains. Kalani exhales and unknowingly breathes.

"What happened, and what happened to  you guys, did you guys meet any guys that are not our own?" I start bombarding him with questions.

"Calm down," he chuckles and I can feel him grin, "We are good. We just lost connection that's all. I mean we-,"

"Did you guys change route when you got disconnected?" This is the big question I wanted to ask about because even if they are fine now if they are been followed, we are good as dead. I put the phone on speaker so I won't have to explain to my wife again.

"No, for a second we got sidetracked and tried to speed up, but then we caught up with the act and we slowed down. So we may have lost them for now, but nothing is certain." He explains, and Kalani grasps, covering her mouth with both her hands.

"Change route," I instruct him. "I'll get a new route plan for you and you can follow us a little later. It's a bit risky," I continue, "but it's the best we can do for now."

"Yeah sure. We can drive around the city for now because if we get out, we are not sure how many are following us by the tail. Get us a spot in town to scout them out, and we lure them into our trap."

"No," That is not an option.

"But,-"

"Listen, I will talk to my father and he will get me a new route that will get you guys to us safely," I inform him.

"No. We are going to stay here, and get them out so we can end them once and for all." He disagrees.

"You are not hearing me," I start getting annoyed because I know what he wants to do. He wants to sacrifice himself to save the team. But I won't allow that at all. "I will talk to my father, and that is final. I am not planning to lose anyone on the team and you best believe that you guys are following us closely." I state with confidence, knowing that I was not losing anyone tonight.

"But,-"

"It's an order." I stop him. This was my last resort and he knew what I meant. So long as I knew, he would always be my second in command and he was always to take orders from me. Ex-mafia or not. Unless he chooses another allegiance to follow, which would get him for breaking the omerta.

"Okay, I will await your call." I nod, and I end that call and immediately speed-dial, my father. He picks up on the third ring.

"You safe?" it's the first question he asks.

"I'm good. I need a new route to de-trail someone." It's all I say and he instantly gets it.

"For all of you?"

"No, for Johnathan and his team. I need the re-route in a few minutes, please." This is the first time I'm begging my dad after the Liam situation.

"On it." It's all he says, and the call ends.

*****
Oh hey, people.

This is a tired girl author who somehow stumbled upon an update that was needed.

I know this is more of Montero opening up, and showing his true heart and how vulnerable he actually is and I know it's a bit off, considering it's long overdue and I apologize for that.

I hope this chapter is good and well, I will see you sooner than you expect.

I love you guys.
