covid-19, the virus that changed the world. schools, closed. non-essential shops, closed. masks on. two meter distance. stay at home. save lives.

your dad was called in to the hospital so you were home alone with your siblings for a little while, you assumed that it was a neuro emergency. you thought the world couldn't get worse, until tonight.

"hey dad!" you greet

"hey honey, can you get your siblings please? i need to talk to you all" he says, clearly in need of telling you all news

"okay... what's wrong? is it mom?" you worryingly ask

"just go get them please, i'll explain in a minute" he says and you go and get your siblings

"hey guys, dad wants to talk to us downstairs, i think it's urgent" you tell your siblings, who are playing upstairs. you take ellis' hand and go downstairs together to meet your dad, who looks like he's been crying.

"daddy what's wrong?" ellis asks as you all sit on the couch.

"hey guys, you know how lots of people are getting sick recently? and mommy was helping the people who were sick?" your dad starts to explain

"no..." you gasp, already knowing what happened

"is mommy okay?" bailey asks

"well, mommy is a bit sick right now so she is going to be the patient who was being taken care of. but we can call her everyday and she will be back home very soon, so for a little while it'll just be us 5 at home" your dad explains and a tear rolls from your face.

"but will mommy be okay?" zola asks

"mommy's super girl! she can't get sick!" ellis innocently says

"i know honey, but sometimes even the strongest people need help and that's what mommy is getting" dad explains. you all form a group hug and you try to save your tears for the pillow, but when you're told that the woman you love most in this world is sick and you can't do anything to help, it's hard not to.

a few hours later, your siblings are all asleep but you can't sleep. the person who understood you most in the world, cared for you, gave you everything was sick and you couldn't even help her. you just had to play the waiting game. you decided to go to your parents room and see your dad, who is probably going through a rollercoaster of emotions.

you knock on the door "it's me, can i come in?"

the door swings open and you burst out crying in your dads arms. you breakdown in his arms, crying so much you can't breathe.

"come here honey, take a deep breath" dad comforts

"why mom? out of all people? why her?" you cry

"i know, i don't understand either. but we are a team, and we are gonna be there for mom as much as we can okay? i love you so much baby" dad says, tears forming in his eyes too.

"i can't sleep knowing she's suffering dad, i can't" you say

"do you want to sleep in here with me?" he asks and you nod. you lay in your parents bed and try to sleep in your dads arms and eventually fall asleep.
