you were a resident at Grey-Sloan and you were really interested in neurosurgery, as was your boyfriend of 7 years, Ethan. Your dad and aunt amelia were hosting a neuro competition, where two residents are chosen at random by them to compete with each other to get the most neuro cases, and the winner is the duo with the most neuro surgeries and cases over a week.

you all wait for the two shepherds to arrive in the residents lounge.

"okay residents! we have all your names in this hat and i will take the first pick" aunt amelia says and picks out a piece of paper "congratulations y/n grey-shepherd, you are now on my team!"

"yes!" you squeal and run over to your aunt

"i see how it is" dad says and picks out a name "congratulations Ethan Adaway, you are on my team, the better team!"

"now this will be good"you hear your friend Lilly say

"let the games begin" you smile and walk off with your aunt.

"this is perfect! i have the upper hand!" amelia laughs

you look at her confused "what do you mean?"

"okay for starters, you are the best resident in your class and i'm not just saying that because you're my niece. and secondly, you come from a family of surgeons, ellis grey, your mom and dad, me, maggie, lexie, mark oh my god the list goes on! you grew up around surgery, you used to sit in my ORs and watch me! Ethan is great, but he's no y/n grey-shepherd" amelia says

"thanks, but im a good surgeon on my own, i don't need my family history to back that! now, let's go get some cases"you reply and we walk to the ER together.

"Shepherd! We need you in here!" hunt calls out

"coming!" your aunt and dad say, your dad and ethan being on the other side of the ER.

"RUN" you shout and you all run to trauma 2 but the boys beat you to it.

"NO!" amelia groans

"you snooze you lose amy" derek cackles

"hi i'm dr adaway, can you follow this light" ethan asks when the patient points at her ear.

"she's deaf..." owen says

"I KNOW ASL! I KNOW IT! I CAN DO IT" you squeal and throw your hand up

"get in here, you're on the case, sorry boys, you're off" hunt says and you high-five amelia. you treat your patient using ASL and see the boys eating in the cafeteria.

"follow my lead" amy says and you start walking "that patient was great! it was so helpful that you knew sign language!"

"what can i say, i'm a great surgeon! me and you are a great team, no one can beat us" i boast

"derek our patient was a miracle!" i hear ethan say and my smile drops

"it was! and we have many more cases ahead of us!" your dad replies "oh hey girls, didn't see you there"

"same! so... this patient of yours..." you ask

ethan interupts "ah ah ah, patient confidentiality"

"ugh come on aunt amelia" you groan

"love you!" ethan shouts

"whatever!" you shout back. you go through the day and only get one more case. you meet ethan to see if he's going home and he's still with your dad.

"hey, are you coming home?" you ask as you live together

"um not tonight, we still have some work to do and your dad said i can stay in your old room" ethan says
