I got something that will help, I said while entering the room. Good, im feeling every bit of this pain. I pretended to check my phone. You going to give it to me or not? I was checking to see if my mom called about Cori. I tried to stall on giving him the medicine. Gabby, what the hell? Before I give it to you, you have to listen. I don't have time for this shit Gabby. I can hear it in his voice he really in pain. You have to agree to sign the divorce papers before I give you anything. Are you serious right now? Very serious! I'm in charge of giving you medicine for the pain. So, if you want this you have to play by MY rules. Norris tried to move closer to me but couldn't. Gabby!
You really are in pain. All of that can go away if you sign the papers. I'm not signing nothing, Norris said. Well, you not getting nothing. I have to go check on my daughter, I said while walking to the door. OK! Ok what? I'll sign the damn papers, Norris said. Really? Just give me the medicine. You have to sign the papers first. I can't sign nothing while im in pain. You think im that stupid? I will sign it! Let me go get the papers, I said. GABBY! What? I have to go get them for you to sign it. Just call Daphne and have her bring the papers over. You still have to wait. So, what's the difference between me leaving to get them and her bringing them? Have her fax it over, Norris said. Ask one of the nurses for the fax number. I don't want to bother them with this, I said. Gabby cut the shit! I need that medicine. I need these papers signed, I said. Well get the damn fax number and have Daphne fax the shit over. You might want to watch the tone if you trying to get this. Gabby, please. Please? I couldn't believe those words left Norris lips. I want to hold out as long as I can, but I know it won't last too long. I'll go get it.
Excuse me, I said. How can I help you? I need to get some documents and I was wondering if I could have them faxed here. Yes, here is the fax number. It's an office space on the 1st floor you could use. Thank you! Your husband is a patient, correct? Yes, he is. Norris Lee? Yes, that's him. How is he? He's ok, having some pains. I can give him something for the pain. The doctor already gave him some but thank you. If y'all need anything, just page us. I will, thank you. You welcome, Nurse Bria said. I was really taking my time getting the papers faxed over. While sitting in the office, Connor called.
Hey! Hey, how are you? I'm ok, you? I could be better, Connor said. How is Cori? She's good, at my mom's. Where are you? I had an follow up appointment at the hospital, but it got cancelled. Why? It's a lot going on right now, I said. What's going on? I was sitting in the lobby, waiting for my appointment. Then I see Norris being rushed in. What? Yeah, he was shot. Wow! Is he ok? Unfortunately, I said. Right now he's just in a lot of pain. I'm taking this opportunity to get him to do what I need him to do. What you mean? The doctor gave me pain medicine for him. I told him the only way ill give it to him is if he signs the papers. Really, what he say? He's willing to sign them. I'm in the office space waiting on Daphne to fax over the papers. You think he's going to really sign it? Yeah, he even said please. He did? Yes, I was just as shocked as you. He must really be in pain? It looks that way, I said. I'll let you get back to that. I want to see y'all, Connor said. We will come over to your mother's when I leave here. Ok, I love you. I love you too, I said.
Daphne faxed the papers over, but I was still sitting in the office space. This is it! Once his name goes on the dotted line, im free from this disaster known as our marriage. All I could do was smile while going back to the room. I finally outsmarted his ass! Here you go, I said while heading Norris the papers. He took the papers and balled them up. What are you doing? You really thought you was slick, huh? I guess you don't want this, I said while holding the medicine. I already got it, dumb ass. Gabby you not smarter than me, you should know this by now. Soon as you left, I paged the nurse. I told her you went to change your nursing pads, but you took the medicine. Sooo, she gave me some. Since I can't feel nothing right now, I should knock your ass out for trying me. You know what, just go. Done looking at your ass, Norris said. I knew this shit was too easy for it to happen the way I wanted it to. Every time I think ive outsmarted his ass, it backfires. Wish Trevor would have done all of us a favor and just killed his ass.
As I was going to the elevator, Nurse Gia stopped me. How is Norris? Why did you call me about that fake appointment? Excuse me? I talked to Dr. Walters; he didn't schedule no appointment for me here. So, why did you call me? Do you know who found Norris? What that got to do with what im talking about? Nurse Bria found him. How she find him? Use common sense, Gia said. She went to his office, found him, and called 911. She rode in the ambulance with him. The bigger question you should be asking is, why was she at his office to being with. I'll let you think on that, Gia said before walking away. It started to make sense. She found him and she gave him the medicine when I left the room. I'm getting to the bottom of this right now, I said while walking back to the nurse station. Before I made it to the nurse station, my mom called. Yes, ma. I think you need to get over here, my mom said. Is Cori ok? It's not Cori, Veronica is here. What? Why she there? I don't know, but she's beat the fuck up! WHAT! Yeah, I don't know why she came here out of all places. Better take her ass to the police station. Just help her until I get there, im on my way.
