EDA SAT AT HER VANITY, PEN lightly tapping at the checklist before her. "Luz needs a new coat, Ember needs her shoes repaired, King needs to be checked for fleas... am I missing anything?" She mumbled, looking up at her reflection, smirking. Eda chuckles. "Oh, you've changed Owl Lady..." She looked a bit higher up on the vanity, where a picture of her small family resides. She plucks it off the mirror, smiling softly as she caresses her thumb over the photo from Grom Night. "It's worth it."

She hears the kids counting outside, and moves over to her large window, opening it up to watch. Ember timed Luz and King on a stopwatch from her dad as they vigorously did sit-ups on Eda's staff.

"And ten!" Luz pulls herself to a sitting and Ember pauses the timer.

"That was your best time yet! Nice job." Ember and Luz share a high five, waiting for King to finish.

"Alright, King. What's the first thing you're going to do when you meet your dad?" Luz asks curiously, turning her attention back to King.

"And ten thousand!" King sits up. "Well, once we're done training I'm gonna move out of that closet, that's for sure," King says sternly, and Eda raises her brows. "Then, I'm gonna ugly cry. Hard!"

"Have you told Eda about your decision to le—" Ember begins asking, but King shushes her, and the sound of Eda's window closing draws their attention.

King's voice is more muffled from inside, but Eda could still hear him. "I... I'm not ready yet. I'm not sure how she'll react." King tells the two girls, and Eda sighs sadly.

She stands, walking back over to the vanity. "Everyones leaving, huh? Even King." She picks up the Grom photo once more and squeezes her eyes shut tightly. She kneels beside a locked chest, and bangs on the lock, making it fall off. "I guess I'm no substitute for the real thing." She goes to put the photo in the chest but notices her lute.

Her mouth parts and she tucks the picture into her hair. Eda reaches for the instrument, smiling. "Well, nothing like a good distraction." She shrugs, standing with the lute.

She begins playing a hard spell, and the room around her lights up. Plants begin levitating and so does her hair, and she gasps upon noticing it.

"Has my magic returned?" She mumbled, her black gem beginning to glow an ominous grey. The magic suddenly stops, and everything drops to the ground. "Oh, guess not. Stupid curse." She grumbled, setting the instrument back into the chest, closing it halfway.
