HOOTY TAPPED HIS FACE INTO the typewriter below him that Luz and Ember had so generously lent the demon, eagerly writing a letter to his best friend, Lulu.

"Dearest Lulu, I hope this letter finds you well, and that you're enjoying your time with your parents." Hooty thought as he typed it. "I'm writing to let you know; I am a genius!"

A few days prior, Hooty stretched out to the mailbox on the edge of the property to fetch a letter from Lilith.

"When'st I wrote you last, I was in the throes of a malaise. That's when I got your letter."

Hooty opened the letter carefully, setting on a rock to read it. Lilith's classy handwriting graced his vision, and he began reading.

  "Hello Hootsifer,

Your letter concerned me. You write of feeling unimportant while Luz, Ember, Eda, and King are off on adventures. But Hooty, you are the Owl House. You take care of everyone inside you. If that isn't a worthy purpose, then what is?"

Hooty preened at the loving words, and sucked himself back into the door, opening himself and checking in on them.

King sat with his arms behind his head, relaxing on the couch. While Eda, on the other side of the couch, had herself nose deep in the scrolls that Ember and Luz have made about glyphs and others containing information about wild magic. Atlantes leaned against the arm of the couch, scrolling through Penstagram on his scroll. Ember laid on her stomach on the other couch, hands resting in her palms as she gazed at the echo mouse, worried. Luz sat on the couch, scribbling away at notes she had taken for the portal.

"How we doing Hoot House?" Hooty asked, smiling.

"Can you keep it down?" King asked, voice cracking aggressively as he pointed to Hooty. "Down!" Another voice crack. "Down! Down! Why does this keep happening?" King glared at his paws angrily.

Hooty moved over to King. "Sounds like our little demon is becoming a 'de-man'." Hooty tilted his head, smile growing wider.

"Agh! Why does that sound so wrong coming from you?" King has another voice crack, and he growls. "You!" No voice crack. "Weh! I am done with this!" King shouts, scampering away.

Hooty moved over to Eda, chuckling. "Those teens, hey? Their moods change like the wind." Hooty comments.

Eda sets the paper in front of her face onto her lap, revealing her bloodshot eyes, clipped open with clothing pins. Hooty shrieks, surprised.
