EMBER FINISHED PUTTING ON her school uniform as Luz tapped on the glass of the case the echo mouse rested in. Luz was anxious to get more out of the mouse, and Ember was too. But, at the moment, she had other things on her mind.
"Oh, little echo mouse," Luz began, the tapping on the glass creating a silent noise as she gazed at the creature anxiously. "Play the diary that can get me and Ember home. Can't you cough up a teeny bit?"
King appeared beside her, hugging a teddy bear. "Just squeeze it out!" He grunted as he squeezed the bear, and the head popped off. He quickly rushed after it.
"Maybe we just need to be patient, Luz." Ember smiled softly, walking over to Luz, bending down and pressing a kiss to her temple.
Luz blushed heavily as she looked up, watching Ember pull the hair out of her collar, shaking it before her shorter hair settled down softly.
Luz looked back to the case and hummed quizzically. She pressed her face to the glass, and whispered, "Please tell me your secrets."
Eda walked in, Atlantes right behind her. "Hey, knuckleheads. You're gonna be late for school." She says, smiling brightly at the two girls.
Ember began walking out the door but Luz didn't pay attention and smushed her face further into the cage.
"Alright, I guess you won't be getting a magic staff with your guy's classmates." Atlantes said, coaxing Luz away from the case quickly.
Luz got dressed in record time, whipping past Eda and grabbing Ember on her sprint to the front door. Luz held the door open with a slightly disheveled Ember dizzily regaining her balance outside.
"C'mon, Eda. We gotta fly!" Luz exclaimed, holding the door open as Eda sauntered in with a smug grin.
"There we go," Eda said, and Luz quickly stomped her feet on the floor, whimpering excitedly.
"See ya later, Dad!" Ember exclaimed as Luz slammed the door.
After arriving at Hexside, Ember and Luz, along with the rest of their classmates were brought onto the grudgby field where a large stump sat before them. Ember looked to Willow, who was bouncing on the balls of her feet excitedly.
"Hey, Willow? Shouldn't Amity be here?" Ember asked curiously, glancing behind her one last time before turning her head to Willow.
