I appreciated that the goggle girl made my awkwardness less visible. I also realized that this was my only chance to get an actual friend in science club. With that in my mind, I asked the goggle girl, "so what's your name?"
"Cassandra, but you can call me Cassy, for saving some time." Her cheeks bones grew when she said that.
"Saving time?" I questioned her.
"Yeah I mean by the time you'd say 'hi Cassandra' I mean who knows what the world would have invented or I would have missed the whole science fair."
I gave her a question-ish look.
"I was exaggerating," she blinked.
My fault for laughing because I always swing my bag when I laugh. And for that laughing moment I had forgotten that I was in a science room.
And my bag had decided to play tackle with couple of glass and beakers on the table behind me. And all you could hear was some embarrassing sounds of shattering glass and then an awkward silence.
Everyone turned to my directions. My eyes were watery and I wasn't sure if it was because I wanted to cry or if it was because of the burning chemicals partying in my eyes.
It didn't take me by surprise when Mr. Scientist didn't look my direction. He was busy putting dry ice into a bubbly green liquid. He's so weird.
I looked at Cassy for help. She nodded then said, "it's fine, there are brooms in the back room, we can pick it up. "
I followed my only hope to the back room. She closed the door behind me and whispered, "Okay here's the thing, you kinda broke one of Captain's favourite glass. He hasn't notice it yet but we gotta act fast." She handed me the broom and open the door.
Right there stood Captain, looking at us dead in the eyes. My blood ran cold.
"Carb.." He said and looked at Cassy. From what I know, he had nicknamed her Carb. "Tell me why is there my glass in the pile of your mess?"
"Captain I can expl-"
"It was me, Captain", I looked down. "It's my mess."
He looked at me, and then said, "I told you that you can join the science club, not fail in life".
Those words. Fail in life. They carved a scar in my heart. They brought tears in my eyes. They made me weak.
I tried my best to hold my tears in. I gulped.
"Clean it up before it becomes your future job to clean up messes", he turned around and walked away.
I wanted to kill that creature. I wanted to pour every chemical on him. I wanted to put his head in one of those deadly gasses. I wanted to make him dissect his own self. Crud.
I wiped the few tears that dropped from my eyes. I took the broom and cleaned up the mess.
Calm down Allison, you're doing it for your grades. 5 weeks Allison. 5 weeks.
The rest of time in the unwelcoming Science Club, I stood next to Cassy. She was teaching me the current experiment she was working on. I tried my best to listen to her but it wasn't easy since I have had knifes stabbed in my weak places.
"Allison are you listening?" Cassy asked.
"Oh yeah. How do you know my name?" I asked.
"Allison, I'm in two of your classes. I was the one who passed out your grade report in Mr. Stanley's class today." She explained.
I'm an animal. I deserve to be punched a million times in the face. Shit.
" Cassy I am so - so sorry. I didn't know you were in my class. I hardly know anyone in that class. I promise, the only person I talk to in that class is basically Mr. Stanley."
"It's okay I'm used to it", she said.
"No it's not okay, I have to make up for this. Come to my house today we can hang out," I offered. The goggle girl definitely needed a makeover. She wore a green T-shirt with yellow pants. No.
I may be clumsy or not really smart in some subjects. But I knew the fact that when it came to fashion and style, I was a doctor.
