"If 'y' is the square root of 64 then 'x' must be... the square root of my ass." I sighed, throwing my pencil down on the table. Math was not my strongest subject, Peter used to help me and in exchange I'd help him with English. But my tutor quit on me ever since he became Spider Man.
It was 6.30, both mum and dad were at work. I was starving and in need of a break. Didn't take me long to find my keys, purse and phone and already be on my way to Delmar's. That was Peter and I's favourite spot to hang out, now it's just were I come when I feel depressed. It's bittersweet actually, thinking about all the memories we've had there. Study 'dates' with Peter, him buying hot chocolates for me, Delmar constantly asking us when we were going to start dating and us both blushing profusely, arguing over which Avenger would win in a fight, him just being there. That was the sweet part, the bitterness came from remembering that those times had come to an end.
As soon as I walked in Delmar already had a massive grin on his face. "If it isn't my favourite customer! You missed your boyfriend by about 3 hours."
"Let me guess, he ordered the number 5 with extra pickles and asked for it to be smushed down really flat?" I joked.
"And..."
"Oh and two packets of gummy worms, of course. How could I forget?" I said laughing.
"Nailed it. So sweet of you to remember your boyfriends order." He teased.
I groan, "how many times do I have to tell you he's not my-"
I was cut off by flashes in the bank across the street. A bunch of guys in Avengers masks where fighting with Spider Man, and he was losing... badly.
Delmar had already dialled the number for the police. "Uh, Spider Man is fighting the Avengers in a bank on 21st street." And not even 5 seconds late a lazer ripped straight through the store. I ducked for cover behind a table, protecting myself against the flames, coughing as the smoke began to fill my lungs.
"Hey Mr Delmar! Are you in here? Is there anybody in here? Hello?" A voice called out, I was able to see through the smoke a figure in red carrying out Mr Delmar and his cat.
"Help, help I'm in here too!" I yelled through coughs. Soon enough the table I was behind was ripped away and I was carried out bridal style by the one and only Spider Man.
"Are you okay? Are you hurt? Do you need me to call an ambulance?" He pestered, continuing to hold me.
"No, no, I think I'm alright. You can let me down though." I laughed shakily, still in shock from what happened.
"Right of course, sorry." He sets me down. "Oh man, the robbers ditched."
"I'm sure they'll turn up again." I try to comfort him.
"That's the problem, they'll turn up again." He hangs his head in shame. The eyes in his mask widening. "You said you were okay, your leg is bleeding!" He freaks out.
"It's fine, really it doesn't hurt-"
"Let me walk you home."
"I'll be fine don't worry-"
"No, I-I have to make sure you get home safe." He insists, it warmed my heart to think that he wanted to make sure I was safe, assuming of course 'he' was Peter and not some random person. After all I couldn't be 100% certain it was actually Peter.
"Fine, I'm only a few blocks anyway." I shrugged. "You'll be okay Mr Delmar?"
"This is what insurance is for kid." He laughed, still coughing a bit.
We walked off, him maintaining a distance between us. Neither of us talking to each other, it felt tense. He was probably still really concerned about the robbers getting away.
