Pain, stinging and dull flourished in various places at varying potencies. You idly peeled your eyelids open. Sunlight shone in the window, making you blink. It was late in the morning. You stifle a noise as you sit up, your abdomen's nerves spasming. When you went to massage the sores strangling your neck, your hand was grounded by his. You let go, slipping your hand out. You drift your eyes away from the crinkle of his furrowed brows and spot his eyepatch under the table. After crawling slothfully for it, you flung it at the ninja's face. He didn't wake up; you scoffed, plodding over to him. All he did was turn on his side, faking a snore when you tapped his arm.
"What a fake-ass snore, Walker." He slit his eye.
"Five more... minutes..."
"We need to come up with a plan."
"Ugh, fine." He took the eyepatch, tying it on his bruised-shut eye. "So?"
"I don't know, start spitballing."
"...You wake me up, saying we need a plan and can't think of anything?"
"You're not doing any better either. I feel so dead," you yawned, pain needling up your entire jaw, and you're aching to stretch your bones, refraining from doing so. "We can't wait for something to happen–we need a plan before it gets worse."
"Yeah, I get it, but I'm drawing blanks. Argh, if only we had something like the Realm Crystal-" You gasped in utter shame you let something as important as that slip your mind. "What- What is it!?"
"Back when Cole and I were searching for the lantern, we saw the Realm Crystal in the helm."
"But we're never allowed at the helm..."
"Which is why we need a distraction."
"When we have kitchen duty–we'll start a fire...!" Jay whispered, elated.
You took a sharp intake of air, seething it through your teeth, "Y-yeah, that could work."
"We'll meet up at the hole." You nodded, your nerves buzzing at that scenario.
'Just keep it together. It's the only way out-' There was a rap at the door...
"My, my, scheming already?" A throaty voice sank through the door, unlocking it. Vacant, murky pupils stabbed both of you on the floor. Cole - of everything you'd thought would happen- appeared out of nowhere and knocked the pirate out with a solid chop to his neck.
"Cole?" Jay wasn't in much disbelief as you were...
'They really did came for him.'
"Hey- what happened to your eye- no scratch that- you look awful- wait let's get you out of those chains first." He unlocked Jay's ball and chain, listening to Jay ramble on. Jay hugged him, and Cole didn't hesitate to wrap an arm around him, helping his friend up.
"Boy, am I glad to see you. I should have told you-" Cole took Jay by his shoulder, pulling him away to look him in the face.
"And I should have been a better friend, don't worry about it, save your strength-"
"Ahem."
"Oh, right." Cole gave you the keys, and you unlocked the chain, rotating your ankle to work the knots.
That voice rang, "Why are you ninja so impulsive." You pieced together who it was. Green flakes wafted from the man's chest and formed in the air with a pallid flash. You all scrutinized him.
"Yang?"
"My, and you're weaker than when I last saw you, Overseer. I could barely sense it was you from my temple."
