Cold. Rushing and chilling to the core as your body tumbled out from sharp claws. You fall deeper into the cold, stagnant as ice. Your heart pounds alive anyway.
"Ahh!" Something slimy and squishy smeared the side of your face. You shoved it aside, grossed out as you sat upright, furtively backing yourself into a sturdy tree. Rapidly cleaning the wetness out of one eye, two giant pupils scanned you. "Did I fall...?" She gave a nod up where you fell deadly high from the sky. Darkness lightened as the unstained moon sank. A pearl white, as pristine as the snow that sat beside you. Blanketing everything, it shouted how close autumn is to winter. Were you still in the mountains? No, there were too many trees. Lanky birchwoods and a plane of ice, a frozen lake.
Weary slits watched you stumble to the edge of it. You kneeled, shuddering when your palm pressed to the ice. Cracking it, ice split, fractured. Ansty, the serpent went ahead as you cupped the water to your other eye, squirming at the biting liquid. Able to clearly see, you wiped with your sleeve to dry your freezing skin. You blinked away the spots in your vision, staring hard at the water stilling to what it once was. Unmoving, you stalled.
Back where you started, lost in caves deep in an abyss of the ocean. Scenery darkened, things wheeling by slowly, drawn-out. A reflection with your empty eyes. One you've seen alone many times.
'Nothing's changed.'
Water disturbed, the reflection lurched into itself, Chime slithering to you with haste."What's wrong–" She wouldn't wait for you to catch on; she bit the scruff of your hoodie, dragging you up. Snaking and weaving lofty trunks, she plowed the snow with her stomach and tail. Now that you're traveling in that direction, it's easier to pick up what she did with her acute hearing. Metal clashed thunderously with a bang. A distressing boom, this one tearing apart metal. It echoed in the empty forest. Urgency heightening, she smashed spindly trees, scratched by their splintered branches as she flung you up. You hooked to her as she split air and clouds for who's there.
Sparks and electricity flowed from stretched wires. A crumpled pile of copper taken apart and played with. Kicked back and forth. Dull and flickering, his spirit is as broken as his rusted body.
Bile acidic and corrosive carves out a distraught bellow, "Leave him alone!!!" A roar oscillated with her diving down, disrupting the landscape. At the exact time a chill so furious surged, conquering the icy winds of the wailing alps.
Icicles rained, and a raw voice boomed, "Let go of my brother!" Snake fangs went to tear, while ice impaled and froze and shattered. You hurried to Echo's side– Chaos overblown in your ears, you hardly realized the danger until it was right on you. Ice shot passed, gliding on the skin of your neck. Zane pierced a nindroid for you to carry up Echo. "I'll cover you!" Zane dispatched another as you trudged through the snow with Echo. One after the other, his element blasted over them, Chime thrashing her tail into them. Only a few were left when you shouldered into the door, tumbling down the curving stairs with Echo. You crashed into the wall, taking the fall for him. Dim lights illuminated as you lay him down–
"Don't- don't go."
"I won't, I'm right here." You scurry from him, scouring for supplies and tools. Something almost tripped you, your shin banging into it, kicking it open. Tools clattered to the lumber floor, as you dived for them, exactly what you needed. "I got you, okay? I got you." He remained silent, his ruptured light flickering. You couldn't see good with the tears, multiplying because of the damage he was in. His arm had been ripped off from his shoulder, laying somewhere in the snow. The clock had slowed to an off-balanced tick, the glass smashed, frayed wires and cogs strewing out his torso. There was more–you couldn't tell it all apart, your voice strained, "I'm sorry–I'm sorry." Unresponsive, Echo continued to stare off as you helped him as best, as much as you could. "Please, please hang in there." You had to remain calm. A treacherous tremor took your hand grasping hacked apart, crumpled wires in his chest. He needs new ones. He needs help. He needs– "You'll be okay–"
