I sat you down when you were falling apart. I held your shards and tried to put you back together. I knew how you worked - no one else quite understood before me. I wanted to love you the way you deserved, but you see, I'm too good at breaking things that can't be fixed. I'm too good at being careless and clumsy and I am afraid I will drop your pretty bruised heart.
I am afraid and I will not whisper lies onto your neck while you sleep. I will not tell you, love is pain, darling, we just aren't trying hard enough. I will not let you break your back for me, I will not let you turn into all the things you think I want to see. I will not let you ruin yourself for me before I pack my bags and leave.
I will not watch you go through the things you did for all the others before me.
