My sun

In 5 million years, the sun will collapse.
In 5 million years, the sun will expand far past the orbit of our earth.
In 5 million years, our world will be consumed by the sun without a second chance,
without a way to stop it.
Scientists predict,
in 5 million years, we will be suffocated by our very lifeline.

My sun is much smaller, and far more powerful than the star
our planets circle could ever be.
My sun will never grow to be 256 times its original size
just to swallow me.
My sun is only as big as the spaces between my ribs,
as big as the length of my arms around him,
as big as the footprints he leaves
where his body meets my skin.
My sun is so mortal
that he can exist under the press of my hands,
that he can hear my soft whispers when I beg for him,
that he can fit me in the curve of his body when I lay beside him.

My sun will not take 5 million years
to drown me in his heat.
My sun will not take 5 million years
to turn me to dust with his eyes.
My sun will not take 5 million years
to suck the oceans of my body dry.
My sun will not take 5 million years
to show me the fire on his fingertips.

My sun will never destroy an entire galaxy,
my sun will never create and crush one billion lives,
my sun will never impact the universe in the largest way possible.

But God, he will engulf my world,
and I am burning up.
