[ TWENTY-FOUR YEARS AGO ]𝕋he blonde lady smiled happily as she looked at her beloved necklace, which hung proudly on her pale neck for everyone else to see. a stranger would just see its material beauty, the way the ruby shined elegantly and the way it complimented the woman; but she saw more.
she saw her lover, the way he placed the necklace on her neck and smiled at her lovingly. months have passed since that, but it lived on her mind everyday. it made her feel loved and proud.
she was getting ready for a date with her soulmate, excitedly fixing her hair with the same bright smile still decorating her red lips.
they met on the usual café they always hang out, but something was off. she could feel it right when she saw her lover's face.
his eyes appeared more dead as the days passed by. they didn't shine like they did before whenever he saw the lady, but the blonde decided to ignore it, too attached to even think about being unloved.
but that was it. she knew what would come next when the man looked at her with pity, sadness on his voice as he said exactly the words she didn't want to hear:
"i'm sorry, i love someone else."
he apologized profusely and asked for forgiveness, saying that he rather be honest and stop with their relationship before it was too late. but truth is, it was already too late.
"curse you." she breathed out, tears falling quickly through her pale cheeks as she stood up. "you said you were my soulmate, you dirty liar. i believed in you and loved you profusely and this is how you pay me?"
he tried to apologize once again, but he was interrupted by his now ex-girlfriend, venom dripping from her voice as she spoke.
"you'll regret this. just wait and see, i'll get my revenge when you less expect it. you'll pay for hurting me this way. i'll be back."
and she sprinted out of the café, waterfalls of tears rolling down her cheeks and her heart breaking permanently into a million pieces.
you know what they say, revenge is a dish best served cold.

"i really want to tell my parents the truth." jungkook suddenly said, taehyung looking at him with a small frown on his face. "they don't deserve to be lied to, they're too good for that."
"what would you tell them? that you're dead?" he asked, jungkook pressing his lips together at that.
"well, if you say it that way..."
"you're right, though. i think you should tell them the truth." he nodded, leaving his phone aside to give his full attention to the younger. they were currently sitting on the couch, their usual spot to hang out when they didn't have anything to do —well, when taehyung didn't have anything to do, since jungkook couldn't really do much—. "do you want to go now?"
"now? isn't it a bit too soon?"
"too soon? you've been living here for weeks now, kookie." he chuckled, the nickname making jungkook smile warmly. he loved how taehyung said it. "should we ask seokjin-hyung and namjoon-hyung to go with us?"
after the younger nodded hesitantly, taehyung did just that, the older boys accepting right away; they've been feeling guilty for lying to jungkook's parents, so they wanted to say the truth as soon as possible.
they arrived at taehyung's house minutes later, the four of them now driving to their destination. they were all nervous, searching for the right words. hey, are you the jeon family? well, your son is a ghost. an old lady took his body away. crazy, right? she even might be a witch!
"i want to hold your hand so bad." jungkook suddenly mumbled, taehyung looking up at him with raised eyebrows. "they're really pretty. they're so big, but look so delicate at the same time." he mumbled once again, his gaze lost at taehyung's hands, which rested in his lap lazily.
the blond smiled at that.
"i want to hold your hand, too." he mumbled back, looking now at jungkook's hands. "the tattoos make it look so holdable."
"you only like me because of my tattoos, don't you?" he teased, taehyung shaking his head while laughing at his words.
in the front, the couple looked at them through the mirrors with soft smile, finding the situation really adorable. but they felt sad, too. their friend was literally a ghost and they still had no idea of how to help him. it made them feel powerless, guilty even.
"i promise i'll hold your hand when i have the chance." jungkook said, his fingers making their way to taehyung's hand, but stopping before they went through his skin.
"you promise?" he asked, jungkook nodding and pulling his hand away.
"i promise."
after a couple of minutes, they finally reached the jeon's house. it was a normal family house, with colorful flowers decorating the front and pastel yellow walls. seokjin and namjoon sighed, looking at the younger boys, who nodded after taking a big breath too.
they walked to the door and knocked on it, waiting for a couple of seconds until a brown haired woman opened the door, smiling widely at the older boy's presence. "seokjin, namjoon! what a lovely surprise!" she then looked behind them, finding taehyung, who looked at her with a small smile. "oh, you brought a new friend?"
"she can't see me." jungkook said, pouting slightly at that. taehyung smiled at the woman, holding back his desire to console jungkook for the moment.
"hello, i'm kim taehyung." he introduced himself, bowing at the woman, who smiled in return.
"come in, make yourselves at home!" she moved aside to let the boys in, jungkook floating behind them while looking around. "may i know why i have the pleasure to meet such a handsome boy?"
"oh, come on, mrs. jeon. you've known me for years." seokjin joked, all of them laughing slightly at his words. he then cleared his throat, his voice now becoming more serious. "but, actually... we have something to tell you. is mr. jeon home?"
"i am, yeah. nice to see you." he smiled politely, coming from the kitchen to the living room, an apron hugging his waist securely. "what's the matter?"
it was time to tell jungkook's parents the truth.
