Baby Spider, Volume 2

Chapter 7

"Hai, hai."

Chrollo rubbed the top of Kami's head.

"The goal is still the same, Kami. Find and continue to follow the trio. Report back in three hours."

Kami squawked and leaped off of Chrollo's arm and flew out of the apartment.

"Wouldn't you prefer having Kami guide them to us?" Yasashi asked, leaning against the door frame. "Rather than have them go around in circles?"

"My worry is Y/n and her instability, Yasashi."

"Unstable or not, surely she will feel better knowing she's with you," said Yasashi, approaching him. "You raised her, you cared for her, you provided for her. You're basically her parent and brother in one. A two for one deal really."

"Two for one," Chrollo lightly chuckled. "Been thinking about getting things cheap, Yasashi?"

"Hey, this is all for the things I've stolen the past few weeks."

Yasashi wrapped her arms around Chrollo's waist, leaning against him.

"I'm sure they'll notice the eagle flying over their heads soon."

"And possibly shoot him out of the sky."

"Bullshit, he's made out of Nen."

"You alright, baby spider?" I tilted my head back to see Shal-nii standing over me.

"Uh-huh," I said. "I keep seeing the same eagle flying over us."

Shal-nii looked up as well.

"Oh, yeah," Shal-nii agreed. "Want me to shoot it out of the sky?"

"No! Shal!"

Shal-nii laughed and plopped down next to me.

"I was joking."

"No, you weren't. I can hear your malicious intent."

"Nah."

"Jerk," I mumbled.

The eagle screeched and perched on a tree branch over our heads.

"What, you want a treat? Sorry, bud. We got nothing."

The eagle squawked again.

"Well, now it's starting to annoy me."

"I told you I can take it out."

"No!"

The eagle tilted its head then flew off again.

"Guess you scared him off, Y/n."

"Fuck you."

"No."

"Shalnark! Y/n! Hurry up! We're leaving."

"Coming, Machi!"

Shal-nii stood up first then scooped me up.

"H-hey! Let me down!"

"Nah."

"Shal!"

"Hehe."

Hours go by nor have we stopped for a break.

"Machi-nee," I whined. "How much farther."

"We haven't found her yet, Y/n."

"Can't we take another break? Please?"

I leaned against the wall of a collapsed building.

"I mean, we can't really go on without a-whoa!"

My back hit the ground, backpack cushioning the impact. I groaned sat up, rubbing my bottom with a pout.

"What in the hell?"

I turned around and examined the area.

Antique paintings lined the wall over my head, the paint a lovely shade of ivory and pale yellow, and candleholders made out of copper.

"Ah, I see you finally found me."

I looked up to the staircase and saw a familiar pair of every changing eyes looking at me.

"Yasashi."

Yasashi walked down the rest of the stairs until she reached me.

"Where the others?"

"Who?"

"Shalnark, Machi, and Nobunaga. Oh, and the exorcist."

"How do you know that?"

"That eagle Shalnark asked if you wanted him gone? That eagle belonged to me."

I started to sweat.

"Oh..."

"Least you told Shalnark not to blast him out of the sky so I ought to give you some credit there."

"Y/n!"

I jumped and looked back to see Shal-nii's head sticking out from a wall.

"Thank goodness!"

The rest of his body stumbled out then stopped.

"Hey! You must be Tasukete! You're a lot prettier in person!"

"Careful or Chrollo will have your head," Yasashi replied. "Where are the others?"

"They're coming in."

Three more bodies came through causing Yasashi to smile.

"Hello, Machi, Nobunaga. It's been a while."

Nobunaga eyed Yasashi from top to bottom.

"You've gained weight."

SMACK.

Nobunaga rubbed the back of his head, glaring at Machi.

"Where is he?"

"Upstairs, in the library as always."

Yasashi guided us up the stairs leading to an even larger room.

"What, have you been remodeling the whole damn place?"

"I had three years to do this, Nobu. I spent that time fixing this place whilst dealing with my issues."

Yasashi opened the oak door and pushed it open. "Chrollo! They're here! Your sister accidentally found it." 

A little shorter than I would've liked it to be but it's all I could get out of in this chapter.
