Aang held the delicate wine glass to his lips, taking a small sip as he took in the atmosphere of the room. Lively music was performed live by one the most renowned orchestras in the Southern Water Tribe. He relaxed in his seat. Chopin, perhaps.
He had a strong distaste for these gatherings. Fake smiles, small talk, there was nothing enjoyable or engaging about them.
But this was different.
The crown princess of the Southern Water Tribe was turning eighteen today. Not too long ago, news of her engagement had spread throughout the four nations.
In normal circumstances, he wouldn't bother to concern himself with such a thing. But this time, he couldn't help but wonder in curiosity as to who it was. It was no secret that her brother was rather overprotective of her.
Across the room, a tall slender figure slipped into the atmosphere, dressed in a pale blue dress that brushed the floor. No one acknowledged her presence at all.
He paused, still holding the glass to his lips. Rather curious as to who this person was.
His gray eyes followed her every movement as she briskly walked to the back of the room. Her dress lightly billowed behind her, and she glanced around nervously.
She came to a halt at the very back of the room, crossing her arms. They were at a more relaxed distance now, and Aang could see her features more clearly. The intricate lacing of the dress, the slit over her left leg, the sleeves resting off her shoulders.
The tone of music altered, and people began to group together in pairs. Feeling a sense of confidence, he set down his glass on a nearby table and straightened his tie. He took long strides toward her, running a hand through his dark waves.
Toph would've told him to grow some balls and just ask, but for the first time, he anticipated rejection from someone like her. She appeared deep in thought, eyes fixated across the room.
