Earlier that night...
Toph stood up immediately, her chair screeching against the polished hardwood floor, "There's someone outside, right on the ship deck."
Sokka shot a warning glance at Katara. His face alone told her that he was already beginning to regret this.
"All of you, stay right here," Aang ordered as Toph and him left the room.
The pair swiftly walked out of the main room, their footsteps in sync as Aang pulled on his gloves.
"Male or female?" Aang asked in a low voice.
"Male."
"Anyone we know?" he questioned as they went through the various security measures.
"Negative."
Aang glanced at Toph, raising an eyebrow. "This should be interesting," he said, before slamming open the main door to the ship deck.
The man on the deck flinched, dropping his magnifying glass on the deck. Clearly from the Earth Kingdom, he appeared to be a harmless journalist that carried a stuffed messenger bag.
"Oh--" he adjusted the wire glasses on his nose. "Wonderful day, isn't it?"
"Who are you?" Aang demanded.
The stranger warily pulled out a badge. A student at Ba Sing Se University.
Toph flexed her fingers, waiting impatiently.
"What's she doing?" the stranger eyed Toph warily.
"I'm blind you idiot," she said, showing off her white eyes. "But I'll tell you one thing," she swung her blade inches from his nose. "My other senses are pretty good."
"You have five seconds to explain why you're here," Aang stated.
The man seemed undeterred by Toph's advancements. "Do I know you?" Toph asked.
He shrugged, "Perhaps, if you went to the Earth Queen's last charity ball."
"Oh I know you," Toph realized. "Our parents introduced us to each other there."
"I thought you said you didn't know him?" Aang whisper-demanded.
"It seems I haven forgotten," Toph said, walking forward and extending her hand. "I'm Toph Beifong. Pleasure to meet your acquaintance again down south."
"Satoru Zuei," he said, shaking her hand. "What brings you here? Last I recall, you hate the cold."
"Unfortunately, my father sent me here to maintain diplomatic relations with one of our business partners here," Toph said, the lie rolling off her tongue smoothly. "This man here is my bodyguard," she said brightly, clapping Aang on the back.
Aang visibly winced.
"A bodyguard?" Satoru chuckled. "I don't think that was really necessary, considering the fact that you can defend yourself quite alright."
"That's exactly what I told him!" Toph exclaimed. She sighed, crossing her arms. "But father insisted, and I had no other option."
Satoru nodded knowingly, "I see. Well, I wish you luck with that."
