Ashwin opened the door in a hurry. Just for that moment, he felt his anger vanish. Her undressed body was sprawled over the floor. He rushed over to her, swiftly lifting her into his arms. He didn't waste a minute and sent a message over to his personal doctor to come over and check on her. He dressed her up in pajamas.
He placed her on the bed and waited for the doctor to arrive, and soon as he did he checked up on her. “She's weak due to dehydration and starvation. She should gain consciousness in two hours. When she wakes up, try to make sure she starts eating even a little bit. If she eats too much at once, she will become sick.”
Ashwin listened keenly and nodded, keeping his eyes on Sivaangi. Once the doctor left, he walked over to her, stroking her cheeks gently. Her skin felt cold against his hand and sighed, shaking his head. He called Nitha to come in. “Sorry aiyaa… Naan evlo solliyum ave ketkale...Enna sathiyam panna sonna ungalte solla koodathunu(I told her many times, but she didn't listen to me… she asked me to promise her to not tell you about this.” Nitha cried, holding Ashwin's hand. “ Hereafter, I'll take care of her. Be with her for just two hours. I'll go and prepare some food for her by myself.” he said and walked out of the room.
Sivaangi gained consciousness after an hour. She opened her eyes drowsily. She looked down at herself to see a thick blanket covering her and her hand had weird tubes attached to her.
“Siva Ma! Thank God you're fine.” said Nitha walking towards her with a tray. She remained quiet as she approached her, settling down beside her. “Naan poi doctor eh koopdren, Ashwin aiyya ku therinja santhosam paduvaaru(I'll call the Doctor, Ashwin sir will be very relieved to know you're awake).”
“Avar te solla venaam(Don't tell Ashwin)… I want to tease him. I want to argue with him. This will be a punishment for him for ignoring me.” Sivaangi said, making Nitha giggle. “Unge avaru kitte sollithaan aaganum. Romba varutthappattaaru(I've to tell him Sivaangi, He's been worried about you).” She frowned sadly, but Sivaangi continued to shake her head at her.
“No no no! Ithana naal therlayama avarku?..he ignored me! Sollathinge avarte… please ka! Please ka! Please ka!” Sivaangi pleaded with her. “Okay! Okay! I won't tell him. Please calm down. Nee enna avan maariye repeat mode le pora… ” said Nitha assuring her.
“I have to call the doctor. He has to take the needles out. Ashwin will come and see you after an hour. He is preparing food for you.” Nitha grinned. Sivaangi nodded her head and winked at Nitha. “Ka! Oru nimisham… thanks for dressing me up…sanitary pad laam place pannathuku…(placing the sanitary pad)-hope you guys understand what I mean-” Sivaangi smiled. “Ma! Naan onnume pannale… ellam Ashwin thambi thaan pannirkaru.. Avarukku sollu(I didn't do anything...Ashwin was the one who did that… thank him” Nitha said and left. Sivaangi's eyes were brimmed with tears.
As she was about to move the blanket, she remembered the IV needles in her hand. Nitha came back in with an older man. Sivaangi listened to the doctor as he explained to her how to get back to full health, not caring much for his words. She knew that Ashwin will take care of her better than herself.
Her warm tears slid down her face as she thought of Ashwin's caringness towards her. No man has treated her like that. In a world where most guys are disgusted to even talk about menstruation, this man placed the sanitary napkin for her as she was unconscious. As a punishment for not hearing any explanation from her and hurting her, she planned to act in front of him pretending like she is angry.
Her heart jumped at the sound of the door opening, and she quickly closed her eyes, pretending to be asleep. She heard his footsteps get closer to her and stayed as still as she possibly could.
Ashwin stared at her as she slept, noticing the wetness on her cheeks. He gently wiped her tears off with his thumb, leaning down to press a kiss on her forehead. “Did you come to see me whether I'm still alive or not? Sorry to say, I'm still alive!” she said sarcastically. “I won't leave you that easily! Come and eat now. I've prepared food for you” he replied sternly. His was unreadable.
“Enakku venaam… neengale saapdunge (I don't want… you eat” she sulked. “cheri saapdevenam!(ok, no need to eat) But what happened that day? What made you run away from me?” he asked, caressing her hand. “Too late… solla mudiyathu..Ithe appove yosichu irukkanum...enna pechu pesuninge? (I won't tell… You should've thought about it before talking too much)” she took her hand from him.
He regretted not asking her to explain on that day. “Naan pannathu thappudhan(It's my mistake)… please eat now...you look worn out…” he said earnestly. She argued with him and refused to eat. Ashwin, who was losing his patience, ended up slapping her. He was taken aback when he saw her grinning at him with love in her eyes instead of getting angry or scolding him for slapping her.
