Nightmares

Nick woke up in Luke and his shared bedroom. The bed wasn't warm and comfy like it usually was in the morning, he felt cold. He opened his eyes to look over, but Luke wasn't there.

"Luke" Sapnap asked looking around the empty room, he got out of bed. The floor was colder than normal and he was stepping in something wet and sticky, he couldn't see what, but a gross smell of iron followed him as he made his way into the hallway.

He tried to stay quiet, but his steps just got louder and louder, the gross smell followed him, but it was changing. Now besides from smelling iron it smelt rotten, and worst of all it smelled like Luke.

He got to the staircase before he heard the voice, spitting out words Nick knew all too well. "Luke are you okay?" He asked from the top of the stairs. "Don-" Luke said something, but his sentence was cut short as a ear piercing scream was heard throughout the house. The scream came from Luke and it was followed by a maniacal laugher.

The worst scenarios started going trough his head, but he shook them off. Luke needed him.  Nick wasted no time running, almost falling over multiple times on the way down the stairs.

"Luke" he said again, his voice shaking slightly. "Nicholas" a familiar voice said, he couldn't pin point exactly who it was, but it wasn't Luke and it scared him, but he had to see if Luke was okay. "Luke are you here?"

"Nicky stay out of this" Luke warned, but Nick's feet wouldn't listen to the command. He continued down the stairs and into the living room.

The sight that met him was horrible. The whole floor was filled with blood, large amount of blood, and on the couch laid Luke. His legs were bendt in the wrong direction, his face bloody and bruised, his eyes looked glassy like he couldn't see, but his eyes turned towards Nick.

He looked lifeless, yet his mouth opened and out in between words came even more blood. "It's all your fault..." Luke said. "No... no it's not, it can't be" Nick said, but he felt someone grab his neck from behind. "He's right Nicholas, it's all your fault" the voice of Jared [I just had to, couldn't miss up on the oppertunity] came from all around him, his words repeating a few times.

"No, no it can't be, no" he tried moving towards Luke who was still bleeding, but his feet wouldn't move. Whatever he stepped in earlier was like glue, sticking his feet to the ground.

The blood started flowing out in larger masses. "You weren't there to save me Nick" Luke said. "You knew he was coming" the blood was all the way up to his ankles now and it was only filling up. He was still stuck to the floor, he tried runnning, he tried anything so that he could get to Luke, but the other boy was drowning in his own blood, and soon it was Nick's turn.

He tried fighting harder, he screamed, but no sound came out, then he was engulfed by red. At first it had a sort of calming effect before he panicked. His mouth started filling up with red, despite the fact that it was closed. It tasted like iron mixed with dirt and smelled like mold and trash.

He was dying and he knew it, but he didn't bother fighting it. He was too tired for that.

Nick shot up, he was in his room again, a stream of sunlight coming in trough his window. It was hitting his pillow where he lied a few seconds ago. I would've been an amazing morning if it wasn't for his nightmare.

He looked at the floor no blood, looked all over himself no blood here either, but his face wet in tears. Then he looked to Luke's side of the bed. No Luke.

He quickly got out running trough the hallway and down the stairs, jumping over multiple steps. He entered the living room, no one there, then the kitchen, Luke wasn't there either. "Luke!" he said louder than what he probably needed to. No answer.

"Lukes! You here?!" he asked again even louder. Nick went back into the living room and sat down on the couch, but then he quickly jolted up at the mental image of Luke laying on the same chouch, his body lifeless, yet moving.

Then the front door opened and closed. He ran into the hallway where Luke stood with his dog Teddy. "Luke!" Nick yelled throwing his arms around the taller boy. "Hey, take it easy, I was just out" Nick looked up at his boyfriend, there was a scrape on his cheek.

"W-what happend- your face it's- it's not my fault right? It wasn't him was it?" the words from Nick's dream echoed in his head. It's all your fault. You weren't there to protect me. You knew this was coming. "I-I need to go" Nick said quickly running up to their room locking the door.

"Nicky, are you okay?" Luke asked. "Y-you need to stay away. It's not safe" Nick's feet were up against his chest, his head laid in his hands trying to stop the tears from falling down.

"Nick, it's not your fault okay? I took Teddy on a walk, and in the park I lost the leash, when I ran after him I got a branch in my face. But I'm fine. It's not your fault. How about you help me get cleaned up?" Luke said softly.

"I-I don't think that's a good idea" Nick stuttered out between sobs. "C'mon babe. I need you to kiss it better. If not I'll be in pain forever and you know that" Luke said playfully.

"I-okay, but only if you stay away from me after that" Luke sighed before giving in "Fine"

Nick unlocked the door. There stood Luke, a hopeful look in his eyes. He opened his arms for Nick, but the other just brushed past him into the bathroom.

He got the first aid kit from the cabin under the sink before sitting Luke down on the toiled. He stood in between the others legs cleaning his wound with rubbing alcohol. Luke flinched away, but Nick grabbed his jaw harshly making his turn back.

When he finished he was about to leave, but Luke stopped him. "You forgot to kiss it better" Luke said. "How old are you? 4?"

"Hey don't be so mean, remember what I said. If you don't kiss it better I'll be in pain forever" Luke out a hand to his forehead like he was swooning.

"Drama queen" Nick said giving the wound a peck. "Happy now?" Nick asked. "Not really, tell me why you were so upset when I came home earlier" Luke said holding onto Nick so he couldn't walk away.

"I-I, I had a nightmare again..." he trailed off. Luke knew about his nightmares, but Nick had always been too afraid to tell him what they were about. Was he really about to start now? "About my ex boyfriend..."

"You never told me you had an ex" Luke said. "I don't like talking about him, he's the reason I'm not still living in Texas. We were a secret to everyone, in our own bubble disguised as roommates. But behind closed doors he... he hurt me, said mean things, broke me" Nick stared crying again, but Luke started kissing away his tears.

"I-it tickles stop" he said trying his hardest not to laugh. "Anyways, I broke up with him and went home again, but he told my parents about us, and they kicked me out"

"In my dream he must've found us. You, you died and he kept saying it was my fault over and over again" "I ended up suffocating in your blood, then when I woke up you weren't there. And then I saw you with that scratch, and I thought he found you after all" Nick broke down crying.

"Hey, look at me. I'm fine see. It was just a scratch I'm not going to die okay?" Luke kissed to top of his head sweetly.

"Let's go cuddle or what?" Luke said grabbing Nick things and carrying him into their shared bedroom.

He laid Nick down softly and changed out of the jeans he wore. He laid down cuddling with Nick as small spoon. "I love you, know that. And I won't let anyone get to you. I'll protect you" Luke said his hand clenching Nick's own.

"Promise?"

"Promise"

Bonus:

The door opened slightly and the the bed shifted. "Hey Teddy, wanna cuddle with us?" Nick asked. Teddy laid down in Nick's arms as the little, little spoon and they all fell asleep.
