I wait. I wait for ten minutes. Then another ten, then another. Until...
"Yes!" I cheer as the fishing rod begins to pull. I reel in the line as fast as possible, lifting it out of the water.
A name tag.
"Oh for god sake..." I throw the name tag on the floor. Fishing is harder than I thought it would be.
I run my hand through my hair in frustration, turning to face a voice which is talking in the distance.
Tommy begins walking my way, holding a lead but I can't see what it's attached to. I wave my hand to try gain his attention but he still doesn't see me.
"Tommy! Tommy!" I rush over to him with the fishing rod in my hand.
"Tommy do you know how to- holy! What the fuck is that?!" I jump back, pointing to the giant creature he has on a leash.
"What do you mean 'what the fuck is that?' This is Shroud. He's my pet spider." He says with a proud smile and I slowly back away so that the spider doesn't attack me.
"Well, get it away from me!" I exclaim as the spider tries to crawl towards me.
"He's not gonna hurt you. He's friendly." Tommy rolls his eyes, patting Shroud on the head.
"Tommy, I swear to god he better not bite my arse whilst I'm trying to fish." I turn around as he follows me back down to the water.
He stands next to me, watching as I cast my line back into the ocean. The line falls into the water and bobs about aimlessly.
Suddenly, Tommy bursts out laughing and Shroud begins hissing, as if it is mocking me too.
"What? What's so funny you little prick?" I flick the side of his head, making him rub the spot where I hit him.
"It's easier if you just catch the fish in the bucket you idiot." He tells me as if it's the most obvious thing in the entire world.
"Oh yeah? Well why don't you show me how it's done if you think you're better than me." I suggest and he just let's out a puff of air.
"No I'm not gonna do it for you." He says, turning to walk back to his home with Shroud. I pick up the name tag I caught earlier and hold it out to him.
"I'll give you this if you help me! Doesn't Shroud need a name tag?" I wave the item in front of his face as he turns around.
He stares at the name tag, then at Shroud then to me. He sighs and gives into my bribery.
"Fine. But I'm not doing much!" He calls out as he tries Shroud's lead to a nearby tree.
"I only need about four salmon. It shouldn't be too hard." I hand him the bucket and he pulls a mocking face at me before diving into the water.
When he emerges from the water, he holds the bucket out to me with four decent sized salmon in.
"Not bad. Not bad at all Tommy. Where did you learn that little trick?" I ask, taking the bucket from him.
His hair drips with salt water and he tries his hardest to ring his soggy clothes out as much as possible.
"Wilbur thought me." He grumbles, picking up the name tag as he unties Shroud from the tree.
I feel my body tense up and I can tell that Tommy notices.
"Tommy... do you trust him?" I ask but he nods his head, hesitantly.
"I guess. He's been with us since the start-"
"No, I mean... do you really trust him? The new him." I place a gentle hand on his shoulder waiting for him to answer. I can tell he's at war with himself in his own mind.
"I don't know Y/N. I'm trying to stay out of all the mess. I'm sick and tired of fighting." He sighs, giving me his honest reply.
I try to think of a way to respond but all my body does is stay still and my head nods.
"Alright. Just be careful please Tommy. I've lost so much before... I don't want to lose you again." I pull him in for a tight hug. I know he knows that we're not blood related and we've come to accept that. But no matter what...
He'll always be my little brother.
"Alright don't go all sappy ewww." He shoves me off and I can't help but let out a laugh. Good to see he hasn't changed.
"Alright. Oh and thank you for helping with the fish Tommy. I really appreciate it." I say and he gives me a small nod before we say our goodbyes.
I look back over the water to see a ripple in the water. I swear I just saw what looks like red hair and a... tail?
I shrug it off, turning away to walk back down the path to Las Nevadas. I carefully carry the four fish in the water bucket back to the restaurant where Quackity is sat at one of the tables waiting for me.
"Mi amor! You're back!" He rushes up to me and embraces me just as I put the bucket down, not wanting to spill any water or for the fish to fall out.
"Hey love. I managed to get four salmon. Well... I managed to get Tommy to get me four salmon. I roped him into it for a name tag." I say which causes Quackity to let out a short lived laugh.
"Well now this place looks better." He pours the fish into the tank filled with water, watching as they swim around.
"Of course it does. We designed it." I joke, lightly punching him in the shoulder as we watch the fish peacefully swim around.
Now that we've finished renovating the restaurant, who knows what we'll do next.
