18. mistake

George POV

"That's how it works", the teacher began to explain, "I will always call out a random word and then your groups have to say a suitable word, one after the other. Which team cannot think of anything in 15 seconds, this team is thrown out. It's a quick game."
"Do the words relate to a school topic?", Niki asked while raising her hand.
"No", the teacher shook her head.
"Are you resourceful?", I asked the group.
"We'll be fine", Nick meant.
"Alright, let's start", the teacher eventually said.

"Summer", she said.
"Swimming!", the first group yelled out.
"Sun", the second group said.
"lemonade", the 3rd group said.
Our turn. "Euh...hot!", I screamed in hectic.
"strawberrys", the fifth group said.
And the last group eventually said "sunglasses".
We went on. It was the turn of the first group again. "Flip flops" "Ice cream" "Watermelon"...the game went on and on. At some point we ran out of words and it got harder. The first group flew out.

"Alright, one group out. We continue", the teacher said.
"Movies with e!"
"Euh, euh, Eagle Eye!" a guy from the second (now first) group went.
"Earth to Echo", the next group said.
"Edge of Tomorrow!", Nick yelled right away.
"Electra", the next group said.
And the last group eventually enumerated "Escape Room".

And again it went on and on until the group after us flew out.
"4 groups left", the teacher said, "let's move on."
"Alright, we can do that", Tina said motivated. Karl was just laying there. I think he didn't even listen.
"Video games!", the teacher yelled.
"Minecraft!", Clay said. Damnit, I wanted to say that!
"Grand Left Auto V", the next group said.
"Valorant!", Nick yelled immediately again.
Then it went on again. This time the round was a lot shorter. The team between us and Clay's group was thrown out.

"okay, okay, 3 groups leeeeft!", the teacher said with an elongated e.
"We actually can make it", I said with a smile.
"Love", the teacher screamed.
"Kiss", Carson yelled on what Clay rolled his eyes with a smirk.
"Couple", Nicki said.
"Romantic", the group after us said.
"Caring", Clay said.
"Feelings". Tina went on.
"Amour", the last group continued.
"Eugh, cuddles!", a guy from Clay's team yelled in hectic.
No one out of my group said something. I was thinking. I was thinking fast. A word for Love....
"Sex!", I eventually screamed. I covered my mouth when I realized what I had said. Everybody was looking at me and then I awkwardly laughed quietly.

But fortunately that didn't last long, because the next group went on.
"Attraction", they said.
"Ah, fuck, eum...Heart!", Clay yelled.
"Date!", Tina remembered.
Then finally, the group after us couldn't think of anything else.

"15 seconds are over! 2 groups left! Who will win?!", the teacher exaggerated a bit like this was a tv show that was now about $10,000.
"Hot things!", she said.
"The sun", Clay said.
"Tea", I enumerated.
"Lava", Clay listed again.
"Eughm....heat!", Nick yelled out. He wasn't sure if that counted, but the teacher let us get away with it.
"Fire", Clay said right away. Fuck, we had no chance against him. He looked at us devilishly. We were running out of ideas.

"Iron!", Niki remembered.
"Good, good", Nick praised her.
Now, Clay took a little longer. The rest of his team was out anyway, they no longer had a clue.
"Coffee", he eventually enumerated.
"Chilli, theoretically", Karl said out of nowhere. We all looked at the boy still resting his head on the table with closed eyes. Then we looked at the teacher who nodded at us to tell that that counted.
"uhm, oven when it's on", Clay added, clenching his teeth.

I had no idea anymore and just hoped anyone else out of my group knew something, so I looked at them. Niki and Tina just shrugged their shoulders with a desperate look. Nick looked thinking, but then glanced at me with wide opened eyes and shook his head.

I tried to think. 'Think harder!', I told myself in my head all the time. 10 seconds were over, for sure. I just didn't pay attention to what I was saying, I quickly said whatever came into my head. Which was by far the biggest mistake I've ever made.

"Clay!", I yelled out.

Everyone looked at me in completely shock. Fuck.
The teacher just burst out to laugh followed by everyone else. I went completely red in the face and could feel the heat in it. I hit my head in my hands to hide my face. For a while, all I could hear was laughing. Why the hell did I say that? Why did it even pop up in my head?

"Well George", the teacher said through the laugh, "that doesn't actually count."
I slammed my head against the table in completely embarrassment. Nick rubbed my back before patting it. I turned my head to the side and looked up to him. His expression was embarrassed too. "It's fine", he whispered at me before putting his hand on his mouth and closing his eyes.
God, that was a completely disaster! I hit my head against the table one more time before sitting up straight again. I slowly looked over to Clay. He looked down to the floor with the hugest blush I had ever seen.

When he saw that I was watching him, he immediately looked away and hid his face. After the laugh attack from everyone had finally ended, the teacher declared Clay's team the winner.
I looked over to my group. Niki and Tina were just looking at me in sorry. Nick was still completely embarrassed. Karl had sat up and stared at me with widened eyes. When he saw that I was looking at him, he pointed at me with a huge smile.

I gave him a confused glance. He just put his hand on his mouth like Nick had done and leaned back. Shit shit shit!!!!

Still no one could handle what I had just said. I bet if any of them have had a really bad day so far, I would have just made it better. This was horrible!

"So", the teacher eventually said through a little bit giggling, "we have time left. We also could do something else."
