VI: Start Off Better

Third POV

The rest of the day was basically a spur- once again the kids began to leave but this time Keiko was the only one left, much to Izuku's dismay.

Her eyes were half-closed, as she wandered around aimlessly, gripping the drawing from earlier; she hadn't taken the daily nap because she was too buzzed to show Katsuki her drawing and of course, Izuku didn't have the heart to look her in her big crimson eyes and say no.

Izuku stood a few feet behind her as she walked around because she would stumble from time to time, or drop the picture so he picked it back up and handed it over to her. But at the same time, he'd wonder why didn't she just sit lay down on one of the left-out mats or have a seat?

He walked over to her, stopping right in front as she slightly bumped into his legs, before watching him squat down to her level giving out a quick suggestion, "how about you sleep with your drawing? I'll wait for daddy and let you know when he's here." he gave a toothy grin, pointing to the mat.

Instead, she walked over to him, leaning her head on his shoulder, letting out an exhausted mutter, "no sleep- daddy hold and walk..."  using her free hand to rub her eye before placing it on Izuku's shoulder.

That's when Izuku finally understood why she came to him to sleep- she must've liked the feeling of being held; he carefully wrapped his arms around her body scooping her from the floor as she rested on him.

He managed to wriggle the picture out of her loose grasp, slipping it on his desk before placing one hand on her head and one on her body so she would be secure. he walked circles around the room- he only stood in one place when he heard light breaths coming from behind him.

Not putting her down just yet, he stared out the window- looking up at the clear sky then down at the subtle in and out traffic from the school, just wondering where Katsuki was.

He was a pro hero, the number one at that. he'd had an on-call job that required him to drop everything to attend to; to protect the city and all its people must've been stressful adding on that he had a daughter to raise all on his own.

It had to have been hard, so as such Izuku couldn't help but show emotion- not pity but something else.

"I thought it was against school policy to show blatant favoritism to students?" A male voice called out to Izuku, snapping him out of thought- basically startling him.

He turned around trying to explain, but he cut himself off seeing who it was, "O-oh no I wasn't I-"

It was Katsuki, standing by the doorway, still dressed in his hero costume but his mask was pulled off his face; perspiration glimmered on his forehead and toned arms while a look of disdain and confusion was present.

It was obvious he was doing something strenuous earlier, which could be a good excuse as to why he was so late today.

"You were what?" he raised his brow, his eyes locked onto Izuku, who was slowly approaching him.

"I, um, was just walking her so she could finally get some sleep," He tried to explain, "She didn't want to lay on her own and said that you would hold and walk her around so I assumed that it would be okay..."

Handing her and her stuff over to her father who was letting off a suffocating aura.

He then paused, saying 'excuse me' walking over to his desk and picking up the drawing before handing it off to Katsuki, "She was excited to show you her drawing so much so that she didn't want to take the scheduled nap.."

That's when Izuku clasped his hands together, bowing his head down in respect, "I'm sorry..." he could feel tears beginning to well up, just blinking them back.

Katsuki looked down at the drawing, one-hand folding it before putting it in his pocket. "Right." he nodded, still staring that the preschool teacher who seemed nervous.

"Well um that's all from me so uh you can-" Izuku tried to speak but Katsuki cut him off, only having a brief question, but this question left the green-haired boy speechless.

"Are you scared of me?"

This was such a straightforward question, yet Izuku just couldn't answer because he himself didn't know. There were obvious lingering feelings he had for the blond but it all came down to just one.

Katsuki watched Izuku's body language; how he shifted from foot to foot, how he bit his lip in thought and his eyes revealed the anxiety that was stuffed deep inside of him

"I- I don't know how to answer that..."

Katsuki looked down, "Fine." beginning to turn away,  and out into the hallway before Izuku called out to him like yesterday.

"I know that probably wasn't the answer you were looking for, but maybe I'll have a better answer next time- so for now could you do me a favor and not tell anyone about the who favoritism thing?"

He didn't look back at Izuku, just slightly tilting his head to the side, "I wasn't planning on doing so- I was told that you were one of the more favored teachers here so it'd be a real shame if Keiko or maybe myself, couldn't see you again."

Izuku felt his cheeks get warm, despite not knowing how Katsuki's statement was supposed to be taken, especially that last part.

Did he mean in like a longing sort of way? in a weird threat kind of way? or maybe as friends?

He sighed walking back into the classroom, picking up anything that was left out, before grabbing his personal items and shutting off the lights.

"I really hope..."  he whispered out loud, looking directly at Keiko's seat, " I really do hope we can start off better this time."
