Bucky and I enter our apartment to find Steve, in his Captain America outfit and shield, looking around at the mattress with the sleeping bag, the odd bits of furniture, and the fact that the kitchen and bedroom are in the same room for us and that there is only one real room. I motion for Luka to keep quiet; he looks confused but stays silent and by my side. Steve picks up a notebook of Bucky's that is on top of the fridge. He flips through it, looking at the varying colored tabs sticking out of the pages.

"Heads up, Cap." I hear Sam's voice through a radio "German Special Forces, approaching from the south."

"Understood," Steve says, and he slowly turns to face us. Bucky's fingers tighten a bit on mine as he moves me and Luka slightly behind him. I roll my eyes. I don't need protection, especially from my cousin.

"Do you know me?" Steve asks Bucky.

Bucky stares at him. "You're Steve." Bucky says, "I read about you in a museum." A partial truth.

"They've set the perimeter," Sam says on the radio.

"I know you're nervous." Steve says setting the notebook on the small table "And you have plenty of reason to be. But you're lying."

"I wasn't in Vienna." Bucky says, "I don't do that anymore. And I'd never do something that could endanger Nadya or Luka."

Steve looks from Bucky to me, then to Luka and back, and looks as though he's realizing just how much we love each other and how protective we are of each other, too. That we're officially a family.

"They're entering the building." Sam's voice says.

"Well, the people who think you did are coming here now." Steve says, "And they're not planning on taking you alive."

"That's smart." Bucky says, "Good strategy."

I hear footsteps, and Bucky and I both look up. Luka looks at me in fear and I run a hand through his curls.

"They're on the roof." Sam informs "I'm compromised."

I hear cops, who I assume are armored, run up the stairs.

"This doesn't have to end in a fight, Buck," Steve says as Bucky steps away and sets our stuff down before he begins to take the gloves off.

Bucky sighs, "It always ends in a fight," Bucky tells him.

I look at Bucky "Then we fight, together," I tell him.

"Why?" he looks so sad and lost, and like he's scared.

"Because I love you. For you, I'll risk it all."

He looks unsure.

"Always. Plus, if they open fire in here, Luka is at risk."

Bucky kisses my head. He then kisses Luka's head, too.

"Then we'll protect him."

"5 seconds," Sam says.

"You pulled me from the river." Steve says, "Why?"

"I don't know," Bucky says, glancing at him as he removes his gloves fully, showing off his metal hand.

"3 seconds!" Comes Sam's voice again.

"Yes, you do," Steve tells Bucky.

"Breach! Breach! Breach!" Sam yells and Bucky, Steve, and I all look at each other wide-eyed and a flash grenade crashes through the window. Steve hits it with his shield and there is a light explosion. But another one comes through the window and Bucky kicks it to Steve, and he smothers it with his shield.
