Vermilion smirked.
"Oh... I'm sorry, where are my manners?" she shook her head. "Grand Wizard, welcome back to the Capital City. Do you like the redecorating I've done? I think it's a magnificent change that has tons of artistic value. ...I mean, just look at all the blood I've smeared over the city and this palace. Take a look at the palace front's new design!! Isn't it great?"
The Grand Wizard didn't bother to answer, he knew it would be a complete waste of time interacting with her.
He placed a hand on Jingks' right shoulder.
"Can you stand?"
She smacked his hand away, and with some struggle she stood back up.
"Alexon... *cough** cough* ...We've been betrayed..."
Isn't that already obvious?
Even though the Grand Wizard and Laplace Demon both know that they've been betrayed, neither one knows the true extent of how deep everything went.
"I knew we were betrayed the moment the Knight Order went against my commands, and when the Grandmasters couldn't be found in their cells. But even if that didn't solidify the thought already, the Grandmasters being free and attacking me certainly did."
"It's bad... it's really bad, Alexon... This is worse than the Legion of Death War... far, far worse..."
"How bad is the rest of the city?"
She sighed.
"Eight Great Minotaurs have emerged from wherever, and they've crushed everything and everybody as they traversed the city. ...So many casualties... so many lives have been taken... Alexon, ...I don't think we can recover from this one..."
Perhaps... Perhaps not...
The Lord Inquisitor is the deciding factor in all of this. Depending how he deals with the betrayal, we may come out fine.
Bent but not broken.
"It's only a matter of time until the reconstructed Capital City falls once again, which is sad considering how we turned the pile of rubble the city originally was into a shining example of the good the Inquisition can do."
"This next time... there may not be an Inquisition to rebuild it..."
That assessment was pinpoint accurate.
"From the way things are currently progressing? You're absolutely correct. ...If the Lord Inquisitor doesn't return to Orion soon, nothing will be left to rebuild, and the Inquisition won't be around."
He sighed, and then turned to the Laplace Demon.
"But hang in there Jingks, because we're going to leave this place - alive."
The person standing in opposition to them didn't agree.
"Pathetic!!" she yelled.
Both the Grand Wizard and Laplace Demon turned to her.
"Hah-- Ahahahahahaha---!!! I'll take that back actually... Calling you pathetic could be disgracing the brilliant work of the Minotaur King to swiftly end the Age of the Inquisition, and I don't want to do that. After all, his masterful plan is truly a work of art."
A masterful plan indeed.
It took advantage of everything the Inquisition gave it, and fully exploited the weaknesses within Orion's society.
Perhaps the plan would've been different if the Septem Church didn't exist, and if Icarus never became Orion's monarch.
The Laplace Demon gritted her teeth.
