Chapter IV
My heart sank as I saw Vaughan's neatly combed hair. His oak brown eyes met mine and we looked at each other with sadness and pity.
This is it. This is the start of my hapless life. I looked at the mirror and saw the reflection of an unfortunate maiden, my 9wn reflection. I dramatically put my arm over my head and sighed audibly.
"You look older," komento ni Vaughan. I looked at him and rolled my eyes.
Well I admit that he looked handsome and more manly looking but that doesn't change the fact that I am disgusted to marry a boy years younger than I am.
"And you still look like a kid," I retorted. Vaughan sighed.
"Nagsisimula nang dumating ang mga tao. Our parents invited almost all of the rich people in the country. Kinakabahan ako, Charlotte."
I took his hand and caressed it gently. "Don't worry, it'll be fine. Let's just accept our fate and try to act nicely in front of the guests."
Natahimik kaming dalawa nang may biglang pumasok sa loob ng aking silid. It was Graciela, and behind her was my mother who looks dashing even with small amount of wrinkles present on her face which will be covered by powder later.
Binati ni Mommy si Vaughan and then she turned to me with a small smile on her eyes.
"You look beautiful, honey," she said adoringly.
I stood up and hugged her tightly. Wala akong pakialam kung magusot man ang aking damit.
"The Prince of Bellaire has arrived, milady. The master wishes your acquaintance," Graciela informed my mother shortly.
She kissed me on the cheeks before exiting my room kasama si Graciela. After a while, Morpheus knocked on my door, requesting Vaughan's appearance in the party downstairs.
My mother told me to wait for somebody to escort me to the party. I am the center of attraction and I shall be presented the last.
I fixed my tight updo, it felt like the strands of my hair are going to rip off my head. The hairdresser suggested this hairstyle because she said that I looked more presentable this way.
The blue dress is enchanted with hundreds of sapphires. The hems are quite faded but it isn't that visible. The corset is tied to tightly and I can't breathe properly but the maid who assisted me told me that it's fine. She said that I looked fat so she has to tighten the corset to make me look more admirable in the eyes of men. I cursed my assistants in my head, I wanted to tear this dress off but I couldn't because it will bring distress to my family.
I looked at the golden victorian necklace with a sapphire pendant that hanging from my neck. It's huge and it doesn't suit me but it's from my grandmother so I like it.
"We should head to the hall now, Lady Charlotte. The master shall make his announcement in a few minutes," Graciela spoke behind me that surprised me a bit.
I looked at her irritatingly and followed her outside. We stopped by the grand staircase and the announcer, I don't know what those people are called, introduced me to the crowd of rich people.
"Ladies and gentlemen, I present you Lady Daphne Charlotte Hayhurst, daughter of Lord Morris Hayhurst."
Unti-unti akong bumaba sa mahabang hagdanan na iyon. People looked at me with delight in their eyes but I know better. They're judging me in their heads.
My father was waiting for me at the end of the steps. He offered his hand and I took it without saying anything. I maintained my cold facade. I shouldn't be intimidated with this kind of people, it should be the other way round.
