Chapter XXVIII
I had a very busy day. Nilibot namin ang buong Kershaw nang isang araw lang. My feet feel so sore and I'm a bit thirsty so I asked Bill to stop to a coffee shop. Sa mga taong hindi ako nakapunta dito sa Kershaw, sobrang dami na ng pinagbago. Marami nang mga ipinatayong gusali at mga konkretong tindahan. Gone the wooden stalls, ang mga maliliit na tindahan ay nakaraya na ngayon sa tinatawag nilang Fair Market.
"There's so much changes happened in this place," I muttered while sipping my afternoon tea.
Bill glance outside the shop and agreed. It was awkward between us first but as we stop in every shop, I remembered how I wished to do this with William. Naalala ko ang aking pangarap na ipasyal siya sa Genova dati, we'll be together living in a small house. Minsan ay umuuwi kami sa mansiyon ng aking mga magulang, we'll ba having a family reunion and in the end, I'll be with William, wrapped in his arms and he's singing me a soft lullaby to sleep.
How ironic none of those dreams didn't happened. Maybe fate is really against us.
Napatingin ako sa kanya at nakitang nakatingin din siya sa akin. My face flushed and I immediately averted my gaze.
"Where's Lois by the way?" I cleared my throat.
"Maybe he went out with his friends down the lake," he said calmly while sipping his tea.
"That's good. He's engaging himself with peers now."
He hummed in return.
"Are you bored?"
"No. Not at all."
"Your face says otherwise, Charlotte. Pagod ka na ba?" His face screams concern.
"Don't mind me, William. It's good that I've been stretching my body, hindi kagaya ng nasa opisina lang ako palagi."
"You must be working hard, huh?" He leaned on the table and I felt his fingers traced my jaw. Nagulat ako doon at mukhang miski siya ay ganoon din.
He cleared his throat before sitting straight on his chair. "I'm sorry, I got lost in your eyes.." he breathe.
"I-it's fine. I'm done with my tea, how about you? Maybe we could proceed to our next destination.."
"Y-yeah right."
And that's what we did. Two in the afternoon, we were sitting near the river where he used to fish way back when. It's peaceful, well after staying a lot of time in Kershaw, I could say that this is the place of peace of mind. Kahit saan ka pumunta ay mararamdaman mo ang kapayapaan.
I noticed some wild flowers growing by the riverbanks. Pumunta ako sa malapit at pinapanood ang tahimik na pagdaan ng tubig. Tumingin ako sa malayong kanan at nakita ko ang paglagaslas ng tubig mula sa talon. I suddenly want to go there and check the huge room but I want to go there with the girls.
"Here." I heard William behind me. I saw him holding three pieces of wild roses, I smiled and sniffed it. It smells good, just like any other roses.
"Thanks, Bill."
Nanatili kami sa tabi ng ilog hanggang bumaba ang araw. I could see lovers on a boat by the river. May mga bata ring naglalaro at ang iba naman ay nagtatampisaw. I recalled seeing Lois' face.
"Lois! Look at you! Your face is full of mud!"
"Sorry, Ate. I was playing with my friends and I accidentally fell on the muddy part of the river," he grinned.
I shook my head in disbelief. Kaagad kong niyayang umuwi si Bill upang makapagbihis kaagad si Elois. He reeks the smell of mud kaya kaagad ko siyang sinabihang maligo.
