Chapter XV

Our days went back to normal after the Harvest Festival. I've stayed here in Kershaw for almost two months now and it felt like I belong in this place.

Walang naging balita tungkol sa aking pamilya sa Genovia, Kirsten told me that she lost her contact with Elijah for weeks now, of course I was worried but I couldn't do anything but to stay here and wait for Elijah to show up and tell us that everything is going smoothly.

Kirsten on the other hand is hardly home lately. She's been busy with her job in the city so I'm always alone in here house. I don't feel lonely though, Rayne and Audrey are always with me. Sometimes, we host a simple party with some of the village girls our age. There are villagers who are nice to me but some can't really forget that I was an arsonist and I burnt Bill's house. Ironic because my whole family is angry at me for sure.

I've been living a normal life now.

Rayne is teaching me everyday now, she said that she quit her job at some tutoring company in the city so she has a lot of time to spare for me.

I forgot that he delivers fresh fish for Kirsten everyday. I'll just come for that later.

"Yeah, I'm off to Rayne's, she's tutoring me," sagot ko.

"May problema ba?"

Umiling siya. "Wala naman. It's just that I wanted to pursue my education too. Wala nga lang akong pera para magpatuloy at wala ring magbabantay kay Lois," he pursed his lips into a thin line.

I went silent and thought of people who lives in this village. Ganoon din kaya sila? Were they deprived of education too?

Genova is classified as a middle class town.

"Maybe I can ask Rayne to give you a private tutoring lesson too," suhestiyon ko.

William just shrugged and closed that topic.

"You've gotten close to each other lately. Should we expect something?" there's a flicker of mysterious smirk on Rayne's brown eyes.

My face heated. What happened to Bill and I at the festival was long forgotten. He never spoke of it after the festival, maging ako ay natahimik din dahil walang lumalabas sa mga bibig ko. My mouth was sealed for any dangerous words that may come out. I like him but no, we can't be together.

"Stop that, Rayne. Rayne noticed it but she just sat there silently with the same annoying flicker in her eyes. Do they talk about us behind us back thinking that were in a relationship or something?
