Chapter I
"Open this door now, Charlotte! How dare you act like that in front of Morpheus? You're such a disgrace! Pinahiya mo ang ating pamilya sa biskonde!"
My father was banging loudly on my door but I couldn't care less. I was just staring at the ceiling, unmoving, and feeling empty.
Why am I born in a household like this? Surely I get all the riches I want but the price was my freedom. Ayaw ko ng ganito. I'm tired of living by their expectations. I'm tired of them controlling my life.
"Maybe we should let her clear her mind for a moment, Morris. The news shocked her." It was my mother's kind voice that spoke on the other side of the door.
I smiled to myself. If only I was brave enough to leave my family behind. If only my mother won't weep when I go away, I will run happily.
"Alright but make sure that I'll see that daughter of yours at the dinner table. I shall talk to her regarding her manners!"
When the footsteps died in the halls, I stood up and went outside.
"The Viscount was a little shaken and offended because of how you acted earlier, but other than that, Morpheus still likes you and you will be wed to his son," Elijah appeared behind me, out of nowhere.
"I should've punched that old man's face when I got the chance. How dare he insult me!" galit kong ani.
"Well father is just as mad as you are but they made a pact and it cannot be undone, Charlotte," Elijah shook his head.
I closed my eyes, feeling my anger vein heat up once again.
"Help me, Eli. Please I never wanted to do this," I pleaded with my eyes still closed and my fist are clenched tightly, digging my nails into my palms
I felt Elijah's arms wrapped around me. "I'm sorry, I cannot do anything, Lottie." Was all the words he could manage to say.
This is where we usually play when we were young.
"Lady Charlotte, Lord Elijah, the master wanted your presence at the dining table. He was with the mistress right now and the maids are about to serve dinner."
I bet my father trusts Graciela more than his own daughter.
"We'll be right there, Graciela. You can leave now," mariin kong sabi ngunit parang wala lang itong narinig.
She stood there unmoving. "The master wants you to move now," mariin din ang tonong saad nito.
I raised my brows. "Are you ordering me, Graciela?" My voice was now hinted with anger. Napayuko ang utusan dahil doon.
"I'm sorry, m'lady. I'm just obeying my master's orders."
"I really hate that maid.
She was the youngest of our chambermaids and she was also the smartest among them. Even though she failed, my Dad still trusted her to be my personal maid and a spy around the house.
