Hello, this is the end, or not! But I'm glad you read High Ranks all the way down here. Thank you for reading!Epilogue
I always admire the love my parents had. I promised that when I grow up, I will find the love they had. They were the perfect example of timeless lovers. When they look at each other's eyes, it's like they have their own world that nobody can grasp. I always thought their love was pure, and untainted. There are many people they met in the past, but it's like they are fated to be with each other.
But it all changed when my mother died. My father became miserable. He wanted nothing but to travel. My brother and I are always left alone in our huge house, with nothing but servants to take care of us.
At first, I didn't complain about anything. I'm fourteen and my little brother was always sick. My Dad always sent me letters of his travels from faraway land. I'm happy that he found happiness, but I'm a little disappointed because he never found it in us, in his children..
My dearest William,
How are you, young man? I hope you and Elois are doing fine. Papa's at the Royal Palace, can you believe that, son? You always wanted to see the palace, right? I'm sorry I went here without you. I thought I'm going to stay here for a month or two before going home in Whitwell. Do you want anything, Bill? Ask anything you want, I'll bring it home for your birthday.
Love,
PapaPs. The Princess Charlotte sent you and Lois gifts. See you soon, young man.
That was the last letter I received from him. I thought he was doing fine. He loves going at the palace. I even remembered my mother telling me that Papa had a past with the Princess.
It was just an ordinary letter from him but I can feel something in my gut. He's still friends with the Princess. It's not a secret to all the people of Brioc that the Princess's husband is a very jealous man. He never wanted anyone to get near her or he'll kill them. It was madness yet nobody said anything about it.
Our summer went like a breeze. I never heard of my father since that letter came. Ang tanging pinagkaabalahan ko lamang ay si Lois at ang aking pag-aaral. I also waited for Dad to come because he promised, he's coming home.
It was evening when the doorbell rang. Quentin, our butler immediately opened our huge double doors to welcome my father but a wooden coffin welcomed us instead.
Everyone inside our house went frozen. I stood there in shock until one of the royal guards who delivered the coffin opened it. The sight of my lifeless father came to sight. I saw how the maids wept, and even Quentin cried but I didn't react. I'm shocked, my young mind can't process the fact that my father is dead. My father is gone.
"I'm sorry for your loss, son," said the royal guard before patting me on the shoulder and leaving the premises.
Quentin immediately ordered to bury my father's body. I didn't even have the chance to say goodbye. I was frozen in shock and it took me days to recover.
