Nyx knew something was wrong with Lilith. He knew it from how she was tapping her foot on the stone floor and she looked at her book and then to him. The two heirs where sat outside their favourite café in Velaris. All ready as few of the city people bowed their heads to the heirs, and they returned the jester. Saying hello to whoever spoke to them.
"What is it Lily?" Nyx asked as Lilith looked up at him from her book.
"Nothing," she lied.
"Tell me." He said taking her hand.
Lilith sighed before she crossed her legs. She then picked up her bookmark and put it inside her book.
"Normally i would kill you if you made me put my book down," Lilith said. "Though. I fear there might be something you need to know. It involves Verna."
A few of the people who where sat near them turned to look at their table on the mention of the Heiress of the Spring Courts name. A few even swore, cursing her for the sins her grandfather done to this place. What he took. Normally Nyx would block it out, but he could not help but want to hurt them. Perhaps it was the mating bond, or perhaps it was something else.
"Easy," Lilith whispered. "The last thing we want if you to beat up poor Mr Miles. We would get kicked out of the café and then father would go on an hour long moan to both of us."
"I'm sorry, Lilith." Nyx whispered. "I don't know what is going on with me."
"You found your mate." She whispers, putting her arms onto the table and moving closer to her older brother. Some members of the public looked away, allowing the two heirs to have their private conversation. "Its only understandable that you want to keep her safe. Not only that, but it's a lack of respect. She never helped her father in those killings, though she gets the blame for them as if she was there."
"I hate it." Nyx said sitting back on his seat.
"L-Lily. . .i need you to do something for me.""Don't call me Lily and I will think about it," she said blowing at her hot cup of hot chocolate.
"Are you not a bit old for that now?" Nyx laughed.
"Do you want me to help you or not?" Lilith hissed. "Plus, your never to old for hot chocolate. Now, what do you need of me?"
"A witness."
Lilith's blue eyes jumped to his face. Her china cup nearly breaking between her fingers. Up above them, the night light flickered on and off. And then went off all together. Lilith then sighed before it turned back on. The china cup was placed back into the table. A few people looked at the heirs before moving away, the last thing they wanted of a nice early spring day was for an storm to be made by Lilith. When she was younger while areas of the town would be in blackouts due to her childhood meltdowns.
"Did you kill someone?" Lilith asked. "Because that is the only reason I can think on why you would need a witness."
"No." Nyx hissed. "Lilith, why would you think that? Why would you think I could do that?"
"That's the only possible reason why I could be a witness. . .unless. . ." Her eyes went to his face, then his hands and then to her own. "Oh. . .eww. . .no!"
"Lilith please," Nyx whispered. "The law makes it so we cannot marry unless a member of our family is with us."
"Then how the fuck do you expect Tamlin to ever agree to this?" She laughed. "Your wasting your time, dear brother."
"Lilith, I'm begging you." Nyx whispered. "She is going to get Lucian. They raised her for the last two hundred years. It will be fine. But Lilith. . .sweet sister. I'm begging you."
"I like to see men beg," she laughed. "Do it again."
"Fine." Nyx took her hands. "Oh dear sweet Lilith.Won't you do you big brother a favour and be his witness at his wedding."
"Very well," she said laughing. "Guess I get the sister I always wanted now." She added, then she gave a sad smile. "I'm guessing this must remain a secret from mother and father."
"Just until it's the right moment for tell them."
"I understand." Lilith sighs. "You owe me one."
"I promise you Lilith," Nyx said. "After this wedding, once it's all out it the open. Once everything is said and done. I will make sure you can live in a world where you can love the woman you love without living in fear."
"Nyx, by now you should know not to make promises you cannot keep."
