Genna's POV
I look at the other girls around me. Terror fills their eyes, and I suppose mine do as well. The Reaping isn't exactly a 'holiday' for people. Sure, most of us thought we knew how it felt to be here, looking at the giant glass ball. Wondering where your name is. But standing with my mother, hoping that Xavier and Michael won't get picked isn't the same as being here. Waiting.
Our escort coughs into the microphone and begins her ten minute speech. My eyes search around for Xavier with the other 17 year olds. My eyes light up when I see him, and he gives me a tight smile. Xavier's name is in there exactly 61 times. Each year we beg him not to. But he always does.

"Ladies first!" I hear the infamous words being spoken.

My heart jumps.

She reaches into the ball and fingers a slip. One slip of paper is life and death for somebody.

"Genna Day!"

My heartbeat stops. I hear screams from my mother as she tries to push through the crowd. Michael tries to control my mother, but I can see he's just as desperate to come and protect me as she is. But it's Xavier that puts up a fight. I turn around and see he is being pulled away.Strong hands of a peacekeeper grab me, and I wrestle them off and try to run to Xavier. As the hands grab me again and pull me onto the stage, I hear a hollow, echoing scream so loud that people in District 12 can probably hear it. Then I realize that it's me screaming.
Way to make a impression on the other tributes, who are no doubt watching this live, laughing at what a easy target I'll make.
I stagger onto stage and my scream has turned into a whimper. Xavier shouts and my mother cries on Michaels shoulder, and all I can think about is how I'm never going to see them again.

Kyoyua's POV
My friend and I were in my parents butcher shop watching them viciously chop meat, and my friend Jamie asked. "Hey, do I look good?" I gave her this like and said "Girl-you gorgeous," She laughed and my parents told us is was almost time for the reaping. We sighed "Fine," and headed toward the area where the reaping took place.
The announcer said ladies first and girl by the name of Genna Day was called up. There was a small scene and when the crowd calmed down the announcer started again. "Next the gentleman from district 10 is Kyoyua Sata," I looked up at the announcer with glare and walked up to the stage 'This isn't the day I imagined for myself' I thought angrily to myself.
