It was the day, when two tributes were suppose to be chosen from district 7. Though I had a very slim chance because I was mayor's daughter but the most of them had that slim chance, this is because they don't really needed tessera. Earlier, they did but not now. It all started with a twist in my life when I was finally aware of what was around me. When I was eleven, I lost my mother due to food poisoning.
Before that I never ever stepped out my mansion, I was home tutored. But when I lost her, all hopes were gone, my dad finally got a chance to officially marry his true love, and he married exactly a day after my mother died. Since that day, I never got any attention from either my dad or his wife or her children. Earlier, I used to be the center of attention.
Bunt now, I was treated like an unwanted guest, who was forcefully provided with food and clothes. I was used to being the center of attention, so to again find it; I went to explore it on the streets of district 7. The people were quite hard-working, lumbering and making paper, but all for the capitol. I saw some small kids using axes too, along with weak, old people, who working hard just to feed themselves.
But still couldn't manage that. And, in either cases I was totally pissed off with the ignorance at my so called home, so I befriended them all, they gave me all the attention I wanted, and in return I started to steal riches from my father, so that at least those small hearts didn't had to sleep without food. There was so much misery in district 7 and all I could do was just a little for them.
But they were still happy with my effort, to feed their kids. Seeing them using axes and saws, I was curious to try it, so they taught me, but I soon realize I was no good at that, so they told me to try my hands on bows and arrows, if I was so eager to use weapons or tools. I tried, and I succeeded though after a few miserable attempts. Me along with several started hanging out with each other and from them I learnt everything about the medicinal values of some plants and the edible ones too. So, they barely needed tessera, because I gave them money, as my father had a lot, which was in fact theirs.
The reaping day, was the most hated day, in my district, I don't know about others. And there on the stage I could see my father with that announcer, whose name had been a mystery to all of us. He randomly chose out the names, first for the girls, he said it aloud, "Lexi Wells." I was utterly shocked, I looked up to my father who indicated me to look confident, and then I turned toward the district 7's people, some of them had watery eyes and the rest of them were doing a silent prayer. I realized that they were my true family; I needed them as much as they needed me, and I had to win those games for them, because I would only die once, but without me they would die every day. So, I confidently walked up to the stage, leaving my fear back, as I only follow one rule, if you lose, lose with respect.

The peacekeepers herded everyone in the square like a herd of cattle. No one looked forward to this day, the day two of us would be stolen and shoved into killing for the amusement of the capital. my heart was thumping as it exploded in me. I know I put my name in twenty eight times for food for my eight siblings, the odds aren't exactly in my favors. Three people tried to run and they were killed on the spot. They're family would be hanged later for suspected treason. Standing with the rest of the teenage boys I felt my heart sink as my niece's name was called. She just entered the competition this year. As she was pulled to the center I started running towards her. I wrapped her in my arms as I tried to ignore the peacekeepers smashing metal bats on my head and pulling me off. They finally yanked me off and I struggled punching them repeatedly until I heard a gun click behind my head. "Well that was quite a show." The speakers bellowed. "Ladies and gentlemen of district 7, I believe we have a volunteer for the quarter quell! What's your name son!"
Peacekeepers surrounded me as I spit at the ground. "Lucas Celsan."
"Well welcome to the hunger games Lucas. Bring them up!"
Peacekeepers grabbed both me and my niece as they dragged us up the stairs into the district building. I struggled as much as I could, until a single shot shouted into the air.
I was shoved into a room as they throw me over a table. Under me the cherry wood snapped leaving splinters sprout through my back. I ran to the window pulling the wood out piece by piece when I realized what they did. My oldest sister, who was the mother of my niece, laid with blood pouring out of her head in the center of the square. She must have fought against them for her daughter and me, I pounded against the window shouting at the top of my lungs for her. Seeing her in the center of the square I swore to myself, I will never become the murderer they want me to be!
