Lucas rolled over in his bed, and groaned a little. He didn't want to wake up, but he knew he had to, otherwise his dad would kill him.

Today was Lucas' first day of high school, in a new town nonetheless. He and his family had recently uprooted their lives to a place called Onett, in Eagleland. It's not like they wanted to move to Onett, but a massive Tsunami kind of forced their hand.

After a rather short summer getting used to the town, today was the first day of school for both Lucas and Claus, his twin brother. Claus had spent the summer outside of the house, making friends, and mingling with the locals. Claus even had one of his new friends, Ninten, over to the house a couple of times. Lucas on the other hand, spent his summer indoors playing video games. But despite this lack of starting a social life, Lucas was actually able to make one friend through online games. Screen name 'L1ghtEmUp,' real name Ness. Through their short time talking together, Lucas learned that Ness was starting high school just like him. And he also, in fact, also lived in Onett. Meaning that at least Lucas wouldn't be entirely alone during school.

After rolling out of bed, Lucas begrudgingly put on some clothes, striped shirt and blue shorts, and trudged his way downstairs. Even though he was excited to meet Ness, no kid wants to go to school. Especially a !# year old like Lucas.

As Lucas made his way downstairs and noticed his dad, Flint, sitting at the kitchen table. Flint was eating a large breakfast, bacon and eggs, and ready the daily paper. But something was strange about this sight, something was...absent.

"Dad?" Lucas asked in a questioning tone, quick to notice the missing thing. "Where's Claus?" Lucas scanned the room a few more times, and sure enough, his ginger brother was nowhere to be seen.

"He left like 15 minutes ago, said something bout' an early sign up," Flint responded, barely looking up from the paper.

Lucas' eyes widened, as what his father said registered in his brain. How could he be s forgetful. The school had sent out an email the night before stating that all new students had to come to school 30 minutes before the start of school, for registration.

Lucas quickly sprinted down the stairs, grabbed his bag which was already beside the door, and sprinted out of the house. He knew if he didn't hurry, he'd be dead meat

It took a lot of energy, and half of his water bottle, but Lucas was finally here. Onett high school, the best high school for miles and miles. Well, he wasn't in the school yet, more waiting in line.

As Lucas was reaching into his bag to pull out his water yet again, he heard a familiar voice come   from behind him. "Lucas?" The voice said.

Lucas turned around to look at the origin point of the voice. Standing behind Lucas, was another new student, obviously. He was wearing a blue and yellow striped shirt, a red cap, and jean shorts. Lucas recognized this person immediately.

"N-Ness?" Lucas replied. Lucas only knew it was Ness, cause Ness had told Lucas what he'd be wearing to school for the first day. "H-How did you know it was me?" Lucas asked.

"The sunflower backpack," Ness pointed at Lucas' backpack, which was indeed plastered with sunflowers, just like Lucas' online profile. "Are you...okay? You look a little tired."

Lucas began to blush, as he wiped the sweat off his body. He was extremely embarrassed that Ness had to see him that way, or at least that's what he told himself. "Y-Yeah. Just h-had to run to school, no big d-deal."

Ness chuckled a little, before looking up at Lucas' hair. "Man, you have some cool hair." Ness complemented Lucas, still looking up at the hair.

Lucas blushed even harder, and began to stroke his hair a little. "R-Really? Th-Thanks. I-I like your hat, its cool,"

"Thank you," Ness smiled a little, and tipped his baseball cap towards Lucas. Something about seeing Ness in person made Lucas' heart go fast. He didn't know how, and he sure as hell didn't know why.

Before the two could continue their conversation, Lucas was called up to register. He waved goodbye to Ness, registered himself, then walked inside the school. All of his dread about school suddenly vanished, and all he could think about was Ness. He was hoping that he would see Ness again, in person, not online.
